Default NEW BLOODWORK UDR REVOLVERS - PICTURES ADDED

I have noticed that several posters have received their revolvers. I have had mine on order for several months. Well, finally, yesterday I get a call, after I had called several other dealers to find one, and I was told that it would be here either Monday or Tuesday, at the price that I had posted a thread about on this forum a while back. I am really excited.
I have noticed one thing however. There have been several on GB in the last week, and non of them have had bids on them.
Is it the times, or has the demand for these dried up?
Either way, I am glad to get one for the price that I was quoted.
I have been looking for one of these for several years.

I just picked it up today.
The trigger is very good, one of he best I have noticed right out of the box.
It shoots really well. I did notice that the revolver had been fired 8 times from the factory. (picture taken right out of the box)
The grips have one place on the front, where they are off slightly (small gap)
Well, it's here after all this time and I am very happy!

I'm excited to get mine. I think that there may be some lack of awareness of these being released by S&W. Yes, the internal lock has always scares away some buyers, but for me I'll follow the video to remove the lock and I will be good to go. Not looking to have these guns collecting dust and be safe queens. I hope all the models will be able to share the same holster.
The prices on these seem to be a bit higher than some of the older guns. I'm sure some people are waiting to find an older one at a lesser price than the new ones.

I am curious as to what the production volume will be on these.

I saw a model657 p.c. that looked just like the u.d.r. 2 5/8in.
slab side barrel ,unfluted cylinder ,internal lock.
Priced at $867.00 "show special"
I may have to contact that dealer when my finances stabilize a bit!

Ok, I'll admit my ignorance. What is a Bloodwork revolver?

I shut my thumb up in the crane and pinched it one time. That drew blood, does my Model 19 now qualify?!?

It's a S&W 627 - 8 shot, 357 Magnum, snub nosed revolver from the PC, and used by Clint Eastwood in the movie Blood Work.

Blood Work (2002)

S&W doesn't call it a "BloodWork" model, just as they do not call a model 29 a "Dirty Harry"

You can see pics in this recent thread...

New PC 627 'Bloodwork' gun is here!

It's a interesting revolver - I'd like to see one - and maybe even buy one.

Take care,
Bob S.

Here's ad copy showing the way S&W and Lew Horton Dist. Co. promoted them when they first appeared years ago.

I have wanted one for several years, but just couldn't find one for under $ 1800.00 or so. And that was on the lower end. When they did the new run and they could be had for under $ 900.00, (These are Performance Center pieces, mind you.) I saw it as an opportunity to buy one, try one and see what the fuss was all about. It is in transit now. I have had a couple of 696's and a 547 to check out all the hoopla on those as well. They've come and gone. Very nice revolvers, both, but didn't really warm up to either and they "sat". Maybe the same will happen with the M627 UDR over time. But, that's the fun in all of this, trying new things and sharing with others. I am not overly fond of the IL, but try not to belabor and overthink the whole issue. I have enough of the older models to keep me happy. I'll let you know how it shoots.....even found some .357 rds!

OK, now I know what one is, and...I gotta have one!

I was at my gunpushers yesterday, looking for the 60 Pro Series he has had on order for a year now. Or a 627 Pro. Now I've got to add this to my list of Grail Guns.

I would be surprised that any dealer has a hard time getting these. My brother (many, many years ago) had a Jerry Sport Center (JSC) account when he had his FFL (before the Clinton years took it away). All three of these guns have been available for over a week at JSC at multiple locations. My FFL called and got one for me.

Well, my revolver came in today. I just posted some pictures. I hope that everyone that responded to this thread that has one on order gets it.
It was worth waiting for.

My Eagle boots had a larger gap at the front-top than yours, Cobra44. I called S&W 4-5-10 and they sent me a pre-paid FEDEX label for the grips, which arrived Friday. They were picked up Monday - may get to Springfield today. I guess it'll be a week or more before I get something back. Mine sports the rounded non-fg-ed cocobolo Ahrends - which feel better.

BTW, my grips closed up on the bottom and front when I took an emery board to the roll pin at the bottom of the frame - removing maybe ~.010"/side. That front top was still wider gapped than your picture.

If you can find this revolver for <$950 - GRAB IT!! Remember - it's a PC Shop gun with an MSRP of $1,185! I am betting it will sell well. The IL didn't slow me down a nanosecond in my decision making process.

Thanks for that information. The gap on the grips is really not that bad. I will check the pin length and see what I can do. They look pretty good other than that.
The IL did not slow me down either. After you want one of these for a long time, and cannot find one without donating a kidney, this is great, IL or no IL. It is soooo cool.
I am very happy

Cool Internal Lock

That is a beautiful gun but as someone else posted INTERNAL LOCK.Now I know the people at S&W knows about this site. Why can't they make guns with or without the lock, just without the lock sign a release or something that is transferable in case of resale.Sorry guys and gals just venting and didn't mean to hijack thread.Just that that stupid lock really gets into my crawl.

I was a lucky camper who just happen to go to shoot a few weeks ago and walked into the store and found a used 627pc bloodwork gun for around $650ish, pre lock and all, I will not buy a lock gun and this one just had my name on it.627PC 8x.jpg

And this one has my name on it. Notice how the front sight profile is different on the original version of these guns...for whatever reason.

I have a question I need answered for *ahem* future use:

There's another eight shot N frame .357 and I've noted they use moon clips, thing is I'm not wild about a "moon clip only" revolver so can I just shove shells in and will it work?

Yes, it will even eject them! It's a rimmed cartridge.

edit:
Some of the early advertising by the American Historical Foundation claimed only 450 of these would be made by S&W. I guess they changed their mind.

Smee78 - I would have preferred the non lock. You got that pretty cheap. That is not the case for most people however.
Yours is the cheapest that I have ever seen. In the last several years, the next lowest price I have seen is 850.00, followed by 1300.00, 1600.00, 1700.00 all the way up to 3500.00. Just not for me. Sure I would have bought a non lock for what you gave for yours, but that is just not the case for most of us. I found a shot out one for 1700.00 that looked like someone drug it down a gravel road.
So myself, like many others got tired of searching for years to find one without donating a body part. When S&W announced these, there was no hesitation, I was in.
I now own 3 lock guns, which I said that I would never buy. One is a 647, a 460 and this 627, only because the 647 and the 460 only came in the lock, and the 627 was way out of line in price for a revolver to use. I have not had any problems with any of the lock revolvers. Would I buy these again, you bet.
I am happy.

s&wchad - thanks for posting that ad. Have you ever seen one of the engraved models? I find it interesting that they made 50 of the engraved models, and seem to not have the lock, and that was in 2007. That is interesting. I wonder if they sold all 50 of those at 3195.00 a piece? They look really neat.
After talking to the folks at S&W many times in the last few months, it appears that the new UDR is going to be limited production run also. Who knows what the total numbers will be.

I buy new S&Ws - without regard to their having the 'IL'. Could I have found an original issue 'Blood Work' 627 for the ~$1k I spent, inc s/t, on my new one? Of course not. I've physically seen one - it was definitely 'used' - no box - and $2k at a show. I got a bargain - and I am still grinning - shot it twice this week already.

Restating the obvious. Buying an IL-equipped revolver is a personal choice. If you think it detracts from the revolver's looks, I can accept that. If you think it is unreliable, where is the legal proof? Nearly nine years - and no lawsuits! My pocket gun is a 642-2 with the IL - I am not worried. Again, it's a personal thing - and, personally, I don't care - that's why over half of my stash-o-S&W's has the IL. And... I am a shooter. I really don't like full lugs - but I have learned to live with them (617, 625JM, & 696). YMMV.

Is the new one cut for moon clips as well? Where is the best place to get one at the best price?

Default Eagle grips

Anybody shot this beast with full loads and the Eagle grips? I understand that for the money, the grips not fitting perfectly is somewhat dissappointing, but I'm curious as to whether these grips would chew up your hand? I don't guess the pinky is getting any purchase with these boot style handles, but concealability is improved. Don't these come on a few different PC guns?

There are/were some of these on GB.
Actually, they come with moon clips. Improves reloading time.
Don't have to use them.

As far as the grips, you can feel heavy loads with them. With heavy loads, I like a bigger grip that covers the back strap, and that is true with most revolvers.

Good evening. I took the M627 UDR to the range for its shakedown cruise this morning. Took the stock grips off last night and went through the various options: S&W Combats, Pachmyer, Wood Hogues, Hogue RB Rubbers, Conversions and Ahrends FG. The Ahrends were just the perfect fit and size for me. The stock grips look good, but are just too short for me on a revolver that size and also seemed a little narrow. Anyway, a pleasure to shoot with either 158 Gr Magnums or .38s. More accurate than me. I need to adjust the sights a tad for my preference, but it is nice to be able to see the sight picture so clearly (aging eyes). I have wanted one for a long time ( like a lot of folks) and sold a couple of others to finance it. No regrets......

One of the members here picked up an engraved version several years ago and posted photos of it. I haven't seen him in a while, but Tod had for or five 627-PC UDR's.

The original series dated to 1999-2000. The 2007 date you saw is a web page visit date when I saved the image, it's not related to the gun.

I had to re-center the front sight on mine - still needs 'alignment' shooting at the range - when I decide on it's real use. It was initially low and right, both ~1.5" on bullseye targets at 12 yd, with my mild 125gr JHP Montana Gold bullets atop 4.5 gr Titegroup in Fed SP primed Starline .357 M brass - probably near 900 fps. The elevation screw was way up to bring the elevation up, and the front sight was off by a bit, so the windage wouldn't correct as it was. As it was, I was hitting the SPC plates at 12 yd more reliably than after it was 'adjusted'. I elected to quit wasting ammo - and come back another day to shoot. Darn, huh?

At ~42 oz loaded, it would not see much CC time here. Maybe a shoulder rig... and back support. A bit short on that sight radius for an SPC revolver. I probably should have 'thought this through' better... naw! I wanted this thing for most of the last eleven years... now I have it. Sure, the 627 Pro is a bit more fun as a plinker - but this guy is a 'cool' keeper. I still have to finish funding it... what goes... 629s? JM PC627 V-Comp? 696? Something has to leave - my safe is getting full - and I have to cut back...

Stainz

PS The Ranch Products moonclips, as low as $75/100 delivered from them, and Starline or Remington brass were made for each other. I keep a couple of 'clips of Remington R38S12 +P 38 Special 158gr LHPSWC loaded 'for emergencies' - even if the 627s are in the safe.

I want one but don't know what I am willing to sell to finance it. I have a 3" 66-2, a 3" 686 CS-1 and a .357 Mtn Gun, all of which I really do not want to sell. All are no lock. Don't know if I want it that badly!!!

FWIW, you certainly would not have any trouble selling any of those pieces should you decide to go that route. However, I think that the Bloodwork Guns, at least the newer run, will be a novelty for a lot of folks and will be available "lightly used" fairly soon. Just my take on it. That and 5 bucks will get you a latte somewhere......

two different sources 8 shoot speedloaders. First is thunder ranch. pricey but they work well. the next is 5 star. $19.95 each. They don't hold the rounds quite as securely (a bit of rattle) but a third of the price! 5 Star Firearms Home | Firearm Accessories | 100% American Made

I have the speed loader and moon clips, just another option

Restating the obvious. Buying an IL-equipped revolver is a personal choice. If you think it detracts from the revolver's looks, I can accept that. If you think it is unreliable, where is the legal proof? Nearly nine years - and no lawsuits! My pocket gun is a 642-2 with the IL - I am not worried. Again, it's a personal thing - and, personally, I don't care - that's why over half of my stash-o-S&W's has the IL. And... I am a shooter. I really don't like full lugs - but I have learned to live with them (617, 625JM, & 696). YMMV.

I know this is an older thread....but I agree with you Stainz, I'm tired of hearing the complaining about the internal lock, I have nearly a dozen newer Smiths with the lock, It doesn't bother me one bit.

That and 5 bucks will get you a latte somewhere......
I think your crystal ball is broken, I haven't seen any on Gunbroker.
