Default Comparing a vintage model 38 to new 638?

Could anyone give me an idea of how durable the original lightweight framed model 38 would be compared to a newer model 638?

The firearm will be carried in the summer. I use mild .38 wadcutters for practice ammo in all of my j frames. Not worried about shooting lots of +p ammo.

If we where to compare round count-would the older gun last as well as a newer one? I would probably shoot at least 50 rounds per month through either gun. I just prefer the older smiths and do not care for the j lock.

AT 50 rounds a month you could live to 185 years old and not wear either one out!
638 covered under warrenty
38 no longer covered under lifetime warrenty.
The 638 may lose it's finish a bit more quickly than the 38.
I have 2 38s, A 49, And a 649, Yet dont own a 638.

Either one will last you a lifetime at 50 rounds per month.

Model 38

+ More than likely will have a better action
+ Darker color has advantages when carrying concealed

Model 638

+ Stainless steel, better for carrying concealed in hot climates
+ Wider front sight
