Default Smoothbore Revolver Barrel

I always thought it would be nice to have a revolver with a smoothbore barrel. It would be great for playing with multi-ball and shot loads.

I think they are illegal in most cases. Nor sure!

I believe that would constitute a short barreled shotgun in the eyes of the BATF and be highly illegal.

I think you are right about that. Something like that could kill someone.

FUD?

Rifled shotgun barrels are > .500" and aren't Destructive devices so why would a smoothbore revolver suddenly be a short barreled shotgun?

The Taurus Judge was banned in CA due to accepting .410 shotgun shells. I guess I shouldn't tell them I can exceed a .410 shell's performance with a custom 500S&W shotshell.

Smooth bore handguns = 10 years and $100,000. (barrel less than 18" and overall length less than 26") All of the modern .410 handguns have minimal, although legal rifling. A screw-on choke tube on a legally rifled barrel is one way to make it work and stay out of jail. That's how TC does it. No, the law isn't logical, but it is what it is. It was only meant to prevent sawed-off shotguns but it's all-encompassing.

I have always wondered what would happen if someone rifled a barrel to a 1:2000 twist?

That way there would not be enough twist to scatter the shot in such a huge pattern and it would still be rifled, and hence not a smooth bore gun.

letter of the law?
