Pretty much whatever you want to do. Mr, I would grind off the post and replace the flag-BUT- if you ever sell the gun.......... Smith will not sell a replacement flag. What you can do if you're sneaky is write Smith-say you bought the gun used and some prior owner must have taken out the flag and being safety minded-you want to ship the gun back to have a flag installed. Smith-scared of us lawyers:D- will replace the missing safety flag and send it back to you. And there ya go-put back in the ground off flag and you have an unaltered one if you decide to sell it.
This bit of advise brought to you by our sponsors-
PS if this gets you in trouble in any way, I'll deny to the death that I said anything ;)

I removed the flags on my two carry guns and stowed them away. The lock hole is intact and unless you know what you are looking for, you would not know the difference.

I would stay away from grinding the flag and reinstalling it, there is no reason to do such a thing.

Or you could remove it & get the "plug". That's my plan. I wouldn't want an open hole there.

This is what I've done, on my three ILS-laden S&W revolvers. I think Steve meant to say "the lock is intact" rather than "the lock hole". A nice little spring holds the lock assembly in place, it won't go anywhere.....proven to me by >1000 rds. through my 329PD, post flag removal.

Thanks for the responses, all appreciated...
