Need your Opinion
Considering trading my S&W 586-0 with 6" barrel, patridge front and target rear sights for a S&W model 19 or 66 with a 3" barrel. I would rate overall condition of my pistol at 98 to 99% and it also has a perfect set of S&W finger groove target grips. I would assume the value of my gun would be between $575 and $625 but I really dont have any idea what the model 19 or 66 in my stated configuration would sell for (any help here appreciated) Should I be able to trade straight across if I were able to find a willing party or should there be some cash exchanged one way or the other?

I have noticed several 66 3 inch models for between 600.00 to 750.00.
You will probably have to add some cash to a deal if you trade.

![Smile](https://smith-wessonforum.com/images/smilies/smile.gif) Don't get me wrong I like a 3" barrel but I would not pay the high price they command these days. You could buy a nice model 19 or 66 with a 2 1/2" barrel for $500. Is that 1/2" worth that much more money? Not to me but people are different. Don

What are you trying to do? Are you looking for lighter weight carry? I bought 2 "J" frames in the last year+ for $325(M-649) & $350(M-37). I think you have a nice gun, maybe better suited for the woods, range, & home defense though. If you want concealed carry how about going down to the J frame & keep the 586? If money is tight & you must part ways with the 586 I'd sell & look for the new one. It would be easier than finding the trade.

lev83,
I would be surprised if you could trade a 4" 586 even up for a 3" model 66. But you could find someone that really wants a 586.
Are you sure you have a model 586 with an engineering revision of -0? If so it needs to be lettered.
The original 586 was introduced in 1980. I know that the -1 revision came into existence in 1986. I have never heard of a -0 revision of this revolver.
