I haven't checked my Blue Book, but I would expect to see it at a gunshow in the 600-700 dollar range. Others will fill in my lackings.

I would love to see some pictures of your gun! Welcome to the S&W forum.

There is a wealth of info on the model 28 here http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-rev...wn-pg-4-a.html

If you have the box, does it say that the finish is nickel?
Is it bright nickel or brushed nickel?
The serial number you posted is not in the serial range of the only known and documented 25 bright nickel and 54 brushed nickel guns.

All known bright nickel 28s were made for the Florida Highway Patrol and are in the serial number range of S189071 ans S197687. These were four screw guns made in 1959. Your serial number dates to 1979. The 54 known brushel nickel 28s were all made in June 1972. HTH

thanks for your help, as i posted earlier. the side of the box says BH for the finish, someone crossed out BH and handwrote nickel. odds are your right about an aftermarket finish. i'll post pictures tonite.
