Default Value of 642 with 2.5" barrel?

Hello all,

I am considering selling my 642-2 locally, and just want to find out where to start as far as price. It's in excellent condition with box etc.

I know s&w doesn't make this model with the 2.5" barrel anymore, so just checking with you all regarding where I should price it.

Thanks!

Is it possibly a 3"? I have never heard of a 642 or any J-frame with a 2.5" barrel (though "never" is not the sort of vocabulary one uses in discussing S&W). The length of barrel is from the front of the cylinder to the end of the muzzle.

They did indeed make it with a 2.5" barrel. They are not well known and not very sought after. They seem to sell for $400 to $500 when they pop up on Gunbroker.

Had no idea those existed - I did a google image search and they look really cool! I wonder how much that 1/2 inch helps velocity...

Now I want one

they made the 642. 637, and 638 in 2.5 barrel with full length ejector rod a few years ago. Some I believe were moon clipped.
