I am needing some input on a comfortable ankle holster for a model 340PD. I have never worn an ankle holster so I have no idea what type or material to look for. I can't wear one to work so it will be just when I go out in the evenings or weekends.

IMHO the Galco Ankle Glove is by far the best, most comfortable, safe and secure ankle holster. I used a Bianchi leather w/ a leather strap and velco closure for 20 years. It was very uncomfortable for 20 years. Last year I switched to the Galco. It has a leather holster and a padded, neoprine band. It comes with a thumb break snap or a tension screw. I prefer the safety of the snap. FWIW.

Got to agree that Alessi is the best but GALCO is very good and available. Been using one for years. I use the model w/o a safety strap and have never had a problem with it coming out.

Another vote for the ankle glove from Galco. Keep in mind that I hate ankle rigs, but sometimes nothing else will do. They are a good choice if you are sitting down, but frightfully slow as a primary gun if you are standing.

ankle holster

Has anyoned tried the ankle lite holster by Galco or does everyone favor the glove holster?

De Santis - Diehard Ankle Rig - Leather holster with well padded leg strap. I like it.

just my $0.02 but ankle carry is the worst method ever devised. if you need to draw your gun, you are in a prone, stationary position, vulnerable from every direction.

get any decent pocket holster, try it yourself and see how you like it. the j frame centennial is the perfect pocket carry piece.

problem for me 100 degree weather! Ankle holster for my current carry (Kahr PM9) with jeans and a tank top is about the only conceal carry I can do...

Tauris Holsters / Lou Alessi Ankle Rigs

Mike Taurisano of Tauris Holsters or Lou Alessi or any Alessi disciple (like...Ritchie, Bulman, 5 Shot etc). Tauris Holster will make with a cartridge loop (never hurts to have more ammo)....

I've used an Alessi ankle holster for nearly twenty years, it's the best hands-down.

Another vote for the Galco Ankle Glove. The sheepskin padding makes it a comfortable rig for daily wear. Can't speak against the others mentioned, I have no experience with them.

actually I am using an ankle rig right now- I very much disagree with it being a bad method- especially when seated ata desk or in a car which most of us do a lot it becomes one of the most accesible methods-the key to ankle rig work is extensive draw practice -I pick my leg up just a little and grab my pant leg with BOTH hands and hike it up then grab the gun with the right hand(holster goes on your left ankle with gun to inside of leg) and depending on the situation end up in a low crouch or kneeling position-when you factor in a swepp of a cover garment on a blet rig it is about as fast as a belt rig- I have used a shot timer to test this and it is not at all hard to get to under 2 seconds to first shot draws with an ankle rig

I've got the Galco, the Alessi, but the most comfortable of all for me is the cheapest - the Renegade 54-M. It's actually made for a medium frame revolver, but it fits the J-frame just great. It's got 6" of elastic whereas most of the other Renegades have just 5" - what that does is allow me to carry a full weight steel J-Frame as comfortably as a scandium framed J in the Galco or Alessi. And here's the clincher - it accomodates a 3" barrel. So my favorite carry gun - a 632 in 327 Federal, rides all day comfortably. I get 1400 fps out of that short barrel with a 115g gold dot, and it kicks like a hot 38 special. I only got 1200 fps out of a 2" barreled J frame with a .357 130g hydra-shok, and it kicked like a mule. Man, sold me on the 327 - I am now a believer!

I agree with MajorD- I'm seated at my desk most of the time and practice is the key.

Unless you're sitting behind the steering wheel of a motor vehicle. In that case, the ankle holster makes a whole lotta sense. Pocket carry with a seat belt on is gonna get you a whole lotta dead if you need your gun.
