.460 on the brain...should I?
Well I guess since I have a .375 H&H this kind of thing was inevitable~I know two places locally that have the X framed .460's for sale, used (probably shot once),for $899.
Thing is these are both the snub version, barrel is 2 or 2 1/2,only thing I know is KRULL LIKES! I expect if I do I'll get blasted all over the place shooting such a beast,at least I can tone it down and shoot .45 Colt or .454 Casull through it....that is if .454 could be considered "toning down"
Anybody else think I'm crazy? I've sold my place and I want to get myself something nice shortly.

I would cause I did. Lol. Got the 8 3/8" and like it more than any gun I have had. I'm not into those short barrel 460's, but to each is own. If you get it I'm sure you won't regret it.

I have a 10.5" Performance Center .460 with a Burris 1.5x4 power and I can't image what the muzzle blast and noise would be out of one of the short barreled ones. Even with my long barrel other shooters usually gather around me and comment that the ground shakes 6' away when I shoot it with Hornady 200 grainers. It makes my 8" 500 look like a pop gun! It surely does perform though.

I somehow expect that anything within ten feet of the muzzle will be set afire from the blast also blinded as touching this off will probably be akin to setting off a flash bang!
But it looks like soooo much fun (yea I'm nuts, but then I have an 18 1/2 .375 H&H)

IMO, the .460 is the ultimate lever action round. All that barrel taking advantage of the stiff charge. Oh yeah.
But getting back to your inquiry, a snubby .460? If you like it, so be it.
I'd get something longer, minimum 8", but that's me. You do what you need to do.
BTW, there IS a .500 S&W lever gun available, perhaps the .460 will follow, but at nearly 2K, I'm certain the .500 won't sell as good as say.. anything else. Ya gotta really want one to buy it at that price. The wood is nice though...

If you really want one, why not? But consider why the two for sale were traded in after being "shot once"...may be quite a handful with even moderate loads, let alone the 2300 fps screamers.

I know, but not the first time for me,for example:
The .375 I bought sat in the local shop for almost two years,no one would touch it....now this is a Browning A-Bolt with the Boss muzzle break, which I did not like at so I took it to a local smith and had the thing lopped off which gave me a 18 1/2 carbine .375 that probably weighs all of 7 1/2lbs!
No one wants to shoot it

460 ?
I recently bought a 4" 500 S&W and I do enjoy shooting it.
All I shoot though is my own loads, which are 23 grains of Power Pistol
and a 350 Grain Plated bullet.
This is the starting point of a "reduced load" 27 grains is listed as max.
I saw no reason to go to the max, to me it made no sense on a reduced load.
It is a lot of fun, and when you consider that a hot load in 45 acp is 7 grains of Power pistol. Please believe when I say , that even as a "reduced load " stuff happens when you hit the trigger. I find it remarkably accurate too.
I am starting to believe I hold my other guns too loose, because this thing shoots so well. I do keep a very tight grip on it !!!
So I think I know why you want one, I say go for it, at least used you will get most of your cash out of it. If nothing else it will make a great 45 Colt snubby !!!

I think the reason I'm so enamored of the thing is the short barrel,I know it isn't going to get the .460 all the way where it's supposed to be but....damn it looks fun.

If you've researched over time a snub .460 and determined that's really what you want, and then have researched prices on used and new long enough to know what a good price for them is then you are not crazy.
You are crazy if this is an impulse buy - as it sounds like it is.

I have the performance center long barrel 10.5 inch I used for elk hunting. The blast almost blows my hat off...I love big boomers but my 460 is not as much fun as I thought it would be.

LOL.....same here. My XVR is as accurate as most of my rifles and a hoot to shoot. I generally stick with the 240 and 300 grainers loaded midway between min and max. I don't need any more than that.

I don't know.....
I've had love for magnum revolvers and hunting rifles over the years....but now I've scaled back to guns that I shoot really well. For me that means .44 Rem Mag is my favorite and I love my puny little .270 Win with it's 24" tube pushing a puny little 110 grain Barnes TSX 3,400 fps.
I learned the hard way that short barelled magnums are hugely inefficient. The powder must have room to burn.
I shot a 5" .460 a couple of years ago. I've got no reason to do so ever again.
I don't have funds to buy guns that I don't enjoy shooting....the only exception is some of the 12gauge 3.5" magnum turkey loads I have. They are zero fun to shoot.
All that being said....if these snubbie beasts are what you like....then by all means get them. You will be miserable until you scratch the itch.
Good luck and have fun.
