Default Dry Fire 637-2?

My sister just acquired a nice new 637. I have reviewed the manual but see no word on dry firing.

Anyone have the scoop on this, as I would really like to ease the stiff action a bit if OK to do so, with some dry firing.

Many thanks.

Regards,

Dyson

There is no harm in limited dry firing, but you can also use "snap caps" (dummy rounds with a cushioning material in the primer pocket) if you are concerned. Rumor has it you can make your own with empties and a little silicone filler too.

I've never worried about dry firing any of my S&W's -- In the 55 years I've been shooting I've never had any problems -- Never owned a snap cap but they can't hurt and they are cheap

As long as it's not a .22 dry fire the heck out of it. It helps smooth out the trigger and helps get you use to the action. Many competitive shooters will dry fire 1000 times a day to get the feel and keep it.

It takes about 5000 rounds to smooth out a trigger so instead of waisting that much ammo just dry fire it. Also helps working on sight picture as well as trigger pull.

I've been doing a lot, transitioning from staging the trigger to a nice straight pull through without stopping.

from the S&W website FAQ page:

Quote:
Q: Can I dry fire my Smith & Wesson?

A: Yes, except for the .22 caliber pistols which includes models 22A, 22S, 422, 2206, 2214, 2213 and 41.

.22 caliber revolvers such as models 17, 43, 63, 317 and 617 also should not be dry fired.

Q: Why can't I dry fire my .22 pistol or revolver?

A: Dry firing a S&W .22 pistol or revolver will cause damage to the firing pin.
