I have a weakness for 3" S&W revolvers, too. Below is my old 10-8, which was my off-duty gun for quite some time when I was on the LAPD. It's still DAO and will stay that way. I recently put a set of "Collinscraft" RB stocks in nice walnut on it, replacing the battered factory PC stocks. Great carry gun.

Hmmmmm....
I wonder what this little lady would bring these days?
I bought it a while back. Shot it some and tossed it in the vault... Since then I haven't been keeping up with the prices...

My 3" Smiths
I only have two at the moment. The PC681 was a Birdsong that I removed the finish from using aluminum oxide at 25 psi. The 65-5 was an L/E gun that was pretty finish-challenged. I bead-blasted it.

That is one sweet 29-4 Lobo! Love that config. I have the same grips on my 3" 629 TALO, they are a pleasure to shoot with. Maybe not the prettiest girl at the dance, but she will make you feel good. I hope my wife doesn't read this post.....

First up is my 3.75" Ultimate 45lc, by Gary Reeder( it thinks it is 3"):
Then I got a couple of S&W 3 inchers from GA/GB:
---624 (no dash)---
---24-6 Nickel Plated ---
---629-6---
One of these days I am gonna get lucky and score a 625-7, in 45lc with a 3" barrel--but I am not holding my breath!

OK - I won't tell you it's about the locks. lol.

I posted on this thread back in 2010, lamenting the fact that I had sold/traded my three inch Model 13, and wanting another. Got lucky last year and got this 13-3 that I added the T grip adapter to, and got even luckier last Sunday with this 13-2 that's unfired and new, complete with perfect original box, papers, and unopened cleaning kit. Transitional gun dating to 1981 that has recessed chambers but NO barrel pin. I found it on Armslist for $500.00, and traded a 15-2 that just didn't fit my collection for it, plus boot. Got about $600.00 in it, but that amount wouldn't purchase EITHER of these guns right now. Thinking I may continue to carry the -3, and keep the -2 for fondling purposes.

In my humble collection is a 3" RB model 10 that was a trade in from the Illinois dept of Investigation. Came with a new S&W holster for $165 in about 1988. The guy must of had 30 of them at the time. Smooth combat trigger and sweet action. Didn't realize how rare they were until I started looking for another one last year, wow! Does anybody ever sell one of these?

Wow! would also love to have one of each, but would settle for the 625-7 3" to go with my 629 3"

My favorite barrel length. I have a small number of 3 inch N frames but they're outnumbered by the 3 inch Detective Specials and Cobras in my safe

Does that also mean that my (3" heavy barrel) 36-1 J-frame is destined to be an overpriced classic?

I was looking for a 3" HB, RB K-frame and spied a "used" one at a local shop. It turns out it's a 65-5 with the original box, grips, cleaning rod/brush, bingo cards, and fish paper. The previous owner fired maybe a cylinder of .38's through it.

I'm fortunate to have bought, new, a Model 65-5 with a 3" heavy barrel. The ballistics are a good compromise between a snubby and a longer barrel. It is a joy to shoot in .38 Special, a little livelier in .357 Magnum. I've had it since the early 1980's.
I also have a Model 60 with a 3" barrel -- picked it up used recently -- it looks like a baby 686. It is just fine with .38 Special, but has a lot of recoil in .357 Magnum (which I don't generally shoot in it).
I even have a Ruger SP101 (with adjustable rear sight!) with a 3" barrel, in .32 H&R Magnum.
So across the three guns, what stands out is the perfect proportions of the 3" barrel with a revolver. Perfection!

Well to be honest I do have a CS-1 686, and a 'Ladysmith' 65 3 inch, as well as a Lew Horten 24 .44 Spl. 3 incher and a 625 .45 ACP 3 incher.
But... I have lots of 2 1/2 inch Smiths and I actually like them better.
Yea I know the 3 inch have a longer ejector rod but if you polish the chambers it won't matter as the empties will fly right out.

Sad to say I only have one 3 inch S&W.
A 64-7 I bought from a big on line re-importer gun store.
Cosmetic's are good and action is tight as most former LEO gun's are.
I wish I snagged a pre-lock by hey it's still a 3 inch.

I still wish that S&W made the 65 again with the same bits as the new 66’s with a 3” bbl. this time use the J frame pinned front sight. That way, one can change out the post to one off many existing aftermarket sights.

I know most of you are mentioning the larger frame guns, but since I am a J-frame guy, a 36-1 is grail to me.

66-6 3" Hi-Viz Davidson's Special 2004
Here's my 66-6 3" .357 (manf. 2004) with some Hornady .38
Still fine tuning the sight blade positioning to get it locked in.
