Default Model 63 grips

Thinking of getting a 5" model 63. Having problem finding round to square butt conversion grips. Any one know a source? Thanks Shelby Chastain

Hogue makes them for K-L-N frames so I would assume they probably make them for J's also.

Well, I should have checked Hogue's sight before I posted. I don't see conversion grips listed for the J-frame. It may be worth giving them a call though to see if they can come up with something for you.

I have bought a few pair of J frame grips from Kelley Arms, google them and look at the grips on their website. They carry some of the conversion grips.

Factory combat grips for square butt with covered backstrap and factory target grips for square butt with half covered backstrap will fit both round and square. The locating pin and front strap on both RB and SB are the same on J-frames.

Nill has some very nice wood grips, but they are expensive.

I bought a lightly used LNIB 5" 63 from a friend's estate last autumn. The first change was the grip - to a square conversion RB Hogue monogrips found on a peg at my local pusher's. See below. Sadly, the excellent Ahrends retro targets in cocobolo shown on my 4" 617 below just aren't available in the RB J-frame size. Sad - I love them.

They are an improvement over the OEM grip, for sure. I still don't see the J-frame square conversion monogrips on Brownell's site - they must still be new - or rare - or old!! Below is the HiViz SW1002 (GRN) site I have since fitted to the 5" 63. It hit 'on the money' 12-15yd with Fed el-cheapo's - my idea of the consummate plinker.

If I find the right length sight, I'll replace it. I'm not in a hurry - it works fine, despite the overhang. Great sighting improvement for 'mature' eyes!

Oh - not seen... get the J-frame hammer spring set - three spings - use the strongest (It's quite an improvement - and yields no ftf's with any ammo I have.) and whatever trigger return spring you wish. Additionally, DS-10 Speedloaders makes an 8-holer for the 8-shot J-frames. I have one - and a 4 x 8 loading plate. Overall, including loading the loading block, it takes just as long to load and shoot 40 rounds either way, but you can load and shoot the 40 rounds super fast with the speedloader. Fun package - now!

Default Ol Timer is right.......

S&W factory oversize grips are made to fit either round or square butt revolvers. Fit is nice and tight with either frame configuration.

These were on my 63 when I acquired it. Don't know the maker but marked Philippines on the inside. I like the fit and control.

The grips on the 60 pro will be your best bet I promise. S&W sales them for around $46.00.

S&W told me they were not available for separate sale, but only for replacement on a 60 Pro. I was very disappointed. I called them after not finding those grips on their website. If you have a link to them, please post it for us. I would love to have a pair.

Default Grips

Kelley arms is a reseller of Altamont Grips.
I do not believe they manufacture anything.
Altamont supplies Smith and used to be used on Colt Python Elites.
They sell direct too.

I have a pair of Eagle round to square that I tried to sell under the For Sale section about 2 months ago. I paid $89.95.
I'm attaching a picture. Very nice grips; no longer have the gun.
Still for sale. Send me an email if interested.
Willing to accept reasonable offer.
