Default 29-3 Classic Hunter Front Sight

Whats the deal with the {somewhat obnoxious} "silhouette" front sight on the 29-3 Classic Hunter? How is it used??

The sight allows one to pre-adjust it for 4 different elevation settings. The idea was for use in metallic silhouette games, where targets are shot at 50, 100, 150 and 200 meters. Instead of repeatedly 'counting clicks' and adjusting the rear sight (not too precision), one could just press and move the front sight depending on the range of the targets.
