629 4" P&R with some leather
I was headed up to the northwest corner of SC back in late July for a backpacking trip and stopped in one of my favorite shops.
I only get in this one a few times a year because of it's location.
The shop only has one display case of used handguns so it's very hit or miss.
What's found in that 4 ft section of aluminum and glass is normally priced right.
Not needing anymore N-frames in .44 Mag this one had to show up!
You ever hold a firearm, work it's action and have the instant desire to strap it on your belt and go for a long walk in the woods with it? It happens sometimes.
The Bianchi 5BHL holster was included in the negotiated price.
The Galco 2X2X2 carriers are a favorite of mine.

There is nothing more satisfying than holding a Smith and Wesson big bore N frame and feeling that big cylinder latch into the frame, and feeling that hammer come back and that cylinder lock to index.
(Well, maybe a few things.)
But this is Ferrari-Rolex quality available to the common man.
I am glad I did not see it first.

I have a 629 Mountain Revolver, but I would have not passed that one up either.

I have (2) .45 Colt Mtn Guns and love them.
I do see now why some folks prefer the standard 4" barrel on a .44 over the tapered barrel of the Mtn Gun. It does have a sweet balance!
I can't wait to get this one to the range.
Thanks for all the comments guys!

You do realize that that gun is a fairly collectable gun don't you? I shoot them all too, but you may want to baby that one. They only made the 4", and the 8 3/8" P&R 629's for one year and they are becoming harder and harder to find since guys are starting to realize that.

Yes Sir, 1981-1982 only.
It will be shot but on a limited basis with mild-medium loads!
It was just too classy to pass up!

Truth is, I'd shoot it too. I'd just take it easy on it (finish wise), though I'd use full snort loads once in a while. That's what they're made for, and what I do with my 6" version.
