Default Musical Stocks

No, they don't play your favorite tune, musical stocks in the sense of the game musical chairs.

Just as most of us probably have a box of unused holsters (always in search of the perfect fit), we, likewise, have a box of grips/stocks that we have taken off, switched around or for which we otherwise do not currently have a home. If I went through the table-top detritus and boxes of miscellaneous junk I have accumulated I am afraid to think how many grips/stocks I'd find.

I recently acquired a Sports South Model 25-10 - this is a Heritage Series model. It did not come in its original PC aluminum case nor were the stocks original. The stocks on it were RB Altamont bonded ivory with silver medallions plus a black Tyler T-grip. It also came with a set of Altamont checkered Legacy panels as are found on a lot of the LH Heritage series guns.

Did some research and came to the conclusion that neither set was correct for this gun. It looks like the original stocks for this model were the Altamont copies of the S&W Target stocks. I really like the looks of the original Target stocks - not so much the Altamont copies. So I upped the ante. Decided if it was going to have copies of any stocks, it should have copies of Ropers, so I ordered a set of Pau Ferro Ropers from Altamont and here is the outcome...

Couldn't let those bonded ivory Magnas go to waste, so they ended up on a 625-3 (3" barrel)...

That gun had the Hogue "bar-of-soap" grips on it and they ended up in the grip box to possibly be recycled at some point in the future.

It helps cut down on buying guns if you just switch the stocks around occasionally.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

I chose a set of Altomont coke bottle grips for my 29-10 but I'm not liking them as much as I thought I would. I handled a set of Eagle heritage target grips at their booth at the NRA convention this past weekend. I like them but at that price I think I'll just keep looking for a set of original S&W checkered target grips.
Then I can add the altomonts to my growing collection of grips.Musical Stocks
