My blue steel N series Model 58. It is my grail gun, and I carry it on duty. I have a 99% pair of original PC magna's for it, but those stay in the safe.
This has been posted before, and it predates the time frame of this section in the forum, but I will post it again anyway. My duty load is a 210 grn GD at 1000 FPS.

sheriff,
that is a beautiful gun. I bet the 'pride of ownership' runs deep.
May I inquire as to what make the grip adapter is?

Model 58 duty sidearm for 13 years. $81.00 NIB with a box of shells. I bought it because I couldn't afford the $125.00 for a Combat Magnum. I destroyed the PC magnas back in 1966 to make a home made set of grips. Who knew??

I 'spect you are right Iggy.....mine ain't for sale any more than yours is....honest wear on a handgun brings back memories, some of them good, some of them not.

Default I only have four

My #657 mountain gun, purchased about April 2009 because we have a mountain house...it was a logical choice.

#57 6" blue purchased fifteen to eighteen years ago, can't remember for sure. I can't remember why I bought it either. #57 & #58 below it.

#58 blue purchased August 2008, with box and non-numbered stocks. I have wanted one of these for several years. Originally intended to be a carry gun for my F-I-L when he went to the mountains, he passed away a few months later.

#57 4" nickel wearing Executioner stags purchased off a forum member. Traded into this one about fifteen years ago, I think.

Nice piece! Would be a great addition to my collection as well! I just picked up a 629 PP and love it! Installed a JPoint Red dot just the other day...

Wanted a a 6 inch barreled .41 for 40 years and one came along. Whaddayagonnado?

Model 57 fired at the factory. The pawn shop had it listed as a Model 41. I walked out the door with it for $500.
Stay out of pawn shops if you wanna keep your money!
Mr. Iggy,

Very nice collection. $500.00 for that absolutely beautiful blued 57 is a true steal/felony. You should turn it over to me for $550.00 to clear your conscience . My 6" no dash 57 looked like that in it's presentation case back in 76. It looks a bit rougher but is my sentimental favorite S&W. Will take new pics of my tribe and post next week. Just added a 58 to replace the one I sold like an idiot in 85!

Here are my two 4 inch model 57's. They are both S serial numbered guns from about 1965.

I handload my ammo for these guns. A 210 grain SWC bullet and 7.5 grains of Unique. Very accurate.

An unusual .41 Mag: The frame is a 624 that shot patterns not groups. Looking for a way to salvage my purchase price, I found a 4" .41 Mag barrel and already owned a .41 cylinder. Put it all together and wonder of wonder it is a tack driver!

Here is a 25 shots from new 8 3/8" that I traded into awhile back:

Because I didn't want to shoot the long 57, I bought this long 657

I traded a Model 66 straight up for this 657 6" many years ago

I also have a 57-1 blue 6" shooter, but don't have a picture available. I have mostly shot hard cast lead bullets with Unique or Herco, but lately been using some 231. All of them shoot way better than I do!

Here's mine, a 57 no dash, in nickle. It has the wooden box, tools, paperwork, and shipping cardboard box.

And my 58-1 recently purchased, on its first trip to the "range".

I've also got a 6" blued 57-1, that I picked up used several years ago.

Default One hard working 657

This is one of several 41 Magnums I have, but the most interesting I think. It started off as a 6" Model 657. I had Austin Behlert shorten the barrel to 4" and the job he did blending the original front sight base with the rib is truly amazing. You have to really look to see the seam. I've shot this gun so much over the years that the cylinder had to be refaced, the barrel turned in one turn to set the B/C gap and the forcing cone recut. It's a tack driver with a superb action. The grips are Spegel Extended Boot Grips in Makassar Ebony.

Very nice. Can we see a close-up of the fitting Behlert did of the front sight ramp?

Here is my meager offering to this thread, might I say... some of you gents have some truly amazing examples. A Model 57-1, I picked this up around new years in a trade, this gun and some bulk 9mm target ammunition for a Sig P226R. It had some funky finger groove grips that ididn't much care for, so i added some eagle classic's to it. I hope to one day aquire some circa 1985 target grips to throw on. Hope you guys enjoy.

Two S-prefix Model 57's - a six inch, and a 4" - both have very smooth DA triggers - my favorite N frames ! The six inch is currently wearing Herrett Jordan Troopers ...... The four inch has factory combats (I know, not correct, but very comfy) I refinished them with oil - much more to my liking than the factory lacquer. Both of these are shooters, and were puchased without the correct cokes ..........

I love the 41 Mag!
How about a Hamilton Bowen customised to resemble a H.D. with a set of Don Collin Ivories.

Wow, you did fantastic. A modern auto for a classic revolver, I'd make that kind of trade any day of the week! Great looking, and I'll bet great shooting revolver!

Iggy, that knife reminds me of one that Sam Fadala has pictured. Neat-o!

(I've tried to post pix of the .41 that I traded a while back, but they're too huge. Sorry.)

Boy, I hadn't thought of "ol fiddle faddle Fadala" years.

I remember him from when he was just learnin' to shoot muzzle loaders on jack rabbits, and "Duke" Venturino when he was still Mike.

Course I remember Custer too.

Default Here ya go

Just recently purchased this one.Always wanted one and finally bit the bullet.Kinda bummed after I picked this one up I found several for around the same price with factory boxes and tools(one with a nice presentation case in nickel). Not gonna complain though.
I may even shoot it for the first time TODAY
Sorry for the store bought pics,I havent taken any of my own yet.I was smart enough to buy a set of decellerator grips for shooting.

Well, I'm envious. I've wanted a Model 57 6-inch since I was about 13 and that was in 1970. Just picked one up off the internet a couple of days ago and can't feature it here as it has not arrived yet. The dream Model 57 .41 of my youth was in nickel but this one is blue, with wooden box and original accessories. I was watching for nickel but the price for the blue was quite decent so couldn't let it go by.

A 40-year itch finally scratched. What about that?

Bottom to Top
4" & 6" 57-1's,
6" & 3" 657's,
Mallard Duck belonging to my young Golden.

Just got the 3" 657 a short while ago, am thinking of going w/wood Houges on it.
Nice story to it. Older gentleman who's been in our club forever usually swings by the range during his daily round about town. I'm a morning shooter and have had numerous conversations w/him. He's very knowledgable about firearms (and history, politics, geography....) One day I was shooting a 6.5" 624 and he mentioned he'd never gotten around to owning a .44spl.
I had another 624 identical to the one I was shooting. In the past he'd mentioned he had a 3" 657. I offered to trade him, he said he'd think about it. Several days later he showed up w/the 657 and said let's trade. I told him he hadn't seen my offering and it was at home. His response was I'd said it was in nice shape and he trusted me.
I ran home got the 624 and a box of shells and met him at the range. I wanted his gun but wasn't comfortable w/the way this deal was going, I felt an even trade wasn't fair to him. I told him this and he replied it was fair from his point of view. I persisted telling him a 3" 657 was more desireable than a 6.5" 624. Not from his point of view he told me. "It's OK Kevin" he said.
We did the deal.
Later I related my experience w/a longtime club member who knows the gentleman well. I was a bit concerned about being viewed as having taken advantage of the gentleman. This member told me prior to the deal the two of them had a conversation and the gentleman had told him he was making the trade because he could tell I really wanted the 657. I also found out he has an extensive firearms collection, double bbl rifles, classic shotguns, drillings shotgun/rifles and a ton of collectable handguns.
I believe he knew the dollars and cents of our deal, it was an act of kindness on his part. Perhaps because on occassion I stopped my shooting and sat down and chatted w/him? No charity on my part, I thoroughly enjoy our conversations.
Kevin

Here is my 6" 57-1.It is the second handgun I bought after turning 21 years old.

Here is a 4" 57-5 Mountain Gun I picked up a while back.I need to find better grips for this N frame round butt gun that fit my big hands better.

Here is a new Classic Series 4" 57-6 I just got a few months ago.I added these older grips to this gun.

Here they are altogether.

Like your guns. Never have seen grip adapters like your on "N" frame guns. I have a 58 I bought in 1974. Still looks great and in box. I picked up a nickeled one after that because it was the first nickeled 58 I'd ever seen. Then got really lucky and came across a blued 58 marked SAPD. Unfortunately only my original gun has correct grips. Shoot the SAPD the most since it's not quite as good of shape as the other two guns. Like them all. Would ask if anyone knows if Jon Jovino or Lew Horton on their 3in model 57 cut hammers and smoothed triggers with the grip cut to round butt K frame size. Have one of these as well but wonder who sold it. Any information would be appreciated.

This is my S prefix 57 that I bought supposedly unfired (though it clearly had been, even if only a few rounds) in the presentation case with unused tools, papers etc. I have owned several 57's/657's now, but this is my favorite so far. These grips were made right after they dropped the diamond center, and they are much narrower and far more comfortable than later target grips. This gun also has some of the most beautiful case colors on the hammer and trigger that I have seen on any gun. The pics don't truly show how brilliant they really are-

I bought this S-series 58 from the son of the original owner. These grips came with it. I've got some regular magnas on it now...

Chuck, according to O.C.G.A. 16-22-3101 you are over your legal limit of Model 58's. I am obligated to allow you to send me the 58 of your choice to me....PM for my mailing address, and we will forget this little incident ever happened

Marlin 1894FG

Ruger Flattop

M57 "Classic" , now has Hogues on it. Wood grips + .41 Mag= No Go

Wouldn't mind a 657 of some sort, and Ruger needs to get in gear and make a stainless .41 Blackhawk, in 5.5" of course.

Ruger made a 5 1/2 in .41 I own a SBH SS 5 1/2 in Bisley from 2003. Acusport had them done as a special run at least 3 times. I bought mine about 3 years ago and love it. It came to me with a tune up and 2 1/2 lb trigger. I like the 41 so much I now have a model 57 and a Tracker 4 in. SS

657-4 that I just bought locally, looks like it was barely fired.

Here are mine. 657 no dash, and an early (pre-warning) NM Blackhawk.

Hey mkk41, the stainless frame looks great on your Blackhawk. Where would a guy get his hands on one of those?

A bad picture...but my two.. a 57-1 and a 57. I am toying with the idea of getting rid of them. I would really like a Model 58 for a base to a custom revolver and another Model 25-? chambered in 45 Colt.

I'd consider that 4" blued gun any time you're ready to give it up !

Now you've gone and distracted me. Instead of getting some yard work done today I took some photos of my non Smith and Wesson .41 Magnums.

Marlin .41 Magnums 1894CCL, 1894fg, 1894S

And another Marlin 1894fg with a custom stock...if I ever get around to fitting and finishing the stock.
