One thing I've learned is not to use "Never or Always" when talking S&W. But yes the 4" and longer should be square with the round butt on the 2 1/2".

The CS-1s weren't based on the "no-dash" model 686 -- I think it was based on the 686-3. I can't remember the exact date but the CS-1s came out around 1988 and the first "dash" 686 I think was in 1986.

This is something I've had trouble finding information on. I too was under the impression that the CS-1's came out after some of the "dashes", but my 4" CS-1 is a no dash 686. Maybe someone out there can shed a little light on this for us.

that makes sense.
wonder why S&W would leave out the dash # if it had one??
