A couple of ideas... a folding bipod for an AR-15 that clamps to the barrel by pulling the legs apart. There are ones made from molded composite that proably can be adapted to work with an X-Frame barrel.

The other way would be a 2 piece barrel band swivel mount made for lever action rifles or T/C Contender barrel.

If you can clamp that to your barrel, then you can probably use a Harris bipod.

Also... it might sound a bit crazy but, the barrel underlug is a real chunk of metal, I wonder if it can be drilled and tapped for a screw in sling swivel, and mount a bipod to it.

Yeah Mag-na-port intl. is pretty close to my work, I actually have already considered tapping the underlug and maybe a velvet hone finish

I'd have it drilled, tapped and slap a Harris on it. Best bi-pod out there IMO. You can always plug it with a screw if you took it off and it would not look bad at all. Had a friend mount a sling to the barel and grip for his 8" 686 that has a 2X Leupold on top the same way. That's a deer killer extrodinaire and a revolver I will have someday. What load do you use for that baby?

Consider that putting upward pressure on a barrel of any gun will make it shoot high, and will vary with the amount of pressure. A separate small rest, with a sandbag on it used by placing the frame of the revolver on it instead of the barrel would render greater accuracy.

If you have one of the long barreled X frames you're already there utilizing the sling swivel studs already on the gun.

On another website, castboolits.com, a member named "69 daytona" has already done this and has a pictorial showing how easy it is to do. Do a search there on his user name and I'm sure you'll find the article if interested.

As for the sandbags, the 500s are notorious for destroying them. The muzzle blast rips them apart in just a shot or two, even with something like elk hide bags like I use. I have a 6.5" 500 and I've learned to never.. ever .... have any part of my hand ahead of the cylinder face ... and to always wear gloves when shooting from a bench.... JMHO.
