Thanks,

No lock?? That gun looks "retro." If my local toy store gets one in then it will be mine.

Would replacing those grips with the Hogue Bantam bring the weight down to the level of a 340pd (aluminum cyclinder)?
I see the listed weight differences between these two models is about 2 to 3 oz, but the price difference is about $100.

No. The 340PD has a Titanium cyl, and will still weigh less the the steel cylinder M&P 340. 2-3 oz. depending on the grip.
I went from a 442 with Uncle mikes grips, to a 342 with Hogue bantams. ALL the difference in the world 4 oz. makes! I will never go back to a steel cylinder for pocket carry!

Where am I gonna find the money for one of these? Does it have the U shaped rear sight to match the XS front site?

No lock
Wow, I didn't realize there were 340's out there with no lock! I just bought a used one and I wished I had known about the no lock versions, I may have put one on layaway and waited to get the gun an extra month or two.

Since the 340PD has a Ti cyclinder, is there very much differecnce, other than the finish, between it and a 342Ti?

Nice looking gun. I'm looking forward to finding one of these. The lock is the reason I don't already own an M&P.

Just when I counted myself finished with buying guns for a while they go and do this. Dangit. Now I have to scrounge up about $700.

For what its worth, the M&P 340 is also listed with no lock with factory #405 LaserGrips under #150971 and the 340PD no lock is #103061. Bob!

Shooting 357's out of these guns are not much fun, I had a 340 M&P, I prefer my 342Ti or even my 642.

Paranoia! Had a dozen S&Ws with locks and without...shoot 1000s of rounds and never a problem or a hick-up do to locks (or anything else for that matter). Dennis

Decidedly unpleasant, but manageable.
When I take my M&P 340 to the range, I take Advil before and after I go in anticipation of my arthritic hands letting me know it doesn't like the combination of .357 Magnum ammunition and a 13.3 oz snub-nosed revolver.

Hmm. No one word can describe it. Stout? No. Brutal? Getting close. Unpleasant at the very least. About 15 to 20 rounds of full house is all I can handle personally. The hands begin to tremble and ache beyond that. I can certainly handle 5 or 10 rounds, but in a closed up building if you survived an altercation shooting full house .357 ammo in a self defense situation, you'd never hear good again.

340 M&P
Guess I gotta get one. No lock makes it just that much sweeter.

Spegel. The checkered grips (from another handgun) let my hand get a better purchase on the gun. Stings a little but works better for me than slick ones. Gotta admit I use a golf glove for an extended shooting session at the range but a cylinder full or two is tolerable without the glove. I use the same grip on it's big brother which is my primary.

Picked up the no IL M&P 340 today. Had the local GS special order it for me, fired casing dated 11/03/10. Passed reliablity testing and will be carried daily as soon as cleaned. 200 rounds WWB 130gr .38spl, 1 stray .38+P round I found in my range bag, 5 rounds Fiocchi 142gr .357 (oww!), 5 rounds some off brand 158gr .357 (holey jebus! my hand!). Will stick with .38+p for carry, just nice to have the .357 option. Fit and finish excellent. Love the XS sights.

I didn't know how many or how long S&W was going to make these, so as soon as I found out about them I wanted to jump on one. This gun may well be the pinnacle of the J frame design, IMHO. Light weight, 357 power if needed, durable finish, excellent sights.

Trigger stud, rebound stud, hammer stud, press fit into frame. Older blued and stainless guns have them but they were polished into frame so you can barely see them.

Thanks! I assumed that, so did S&W leave them visible just to "fancy the gun up"?

Well I guess my pre-lock 342PD just went down in value huh?...ha ha. I'm curious to see the weight of the 340PD compared to the 342PD and see if they are within an oz difference. The 342PD was actually slightly lighter than the 342Ti due to deeper fluting on the cylinder, I never realized this until it was pointed out to me. Does the 340PD have the deeper fluting as well?

My new 340 M&P (empty) weighs 13.28oz with rubber grips, a little more with wood. I have a CT405 on the way. Regardless, It's light! (and shoots great, too)

I have a dilema. I can only get one at this time. I was leaning towards the 340PD, but would like someone to weigh the M&P 340 with NO grips and get back to me. Thanks in advance!
P.S. If you can weigh the set of fish gil grips seperately, I would appreciate that too!

No grips 12.17oz
Grips & screw 1.66
The grips are the new rubbers like whitecoyote's, if that's what you mean by fish gills.

What is a good price to pay on one of these no-lock 340's and are they readily available? I only see one on gunbroker right now with one bid of $736 listed under "m&p340" with no spaces...is that too high or should one expect to have to pay that much? Should it be jumped on now or are they still pretty much available? Looks like that one might stay at that price because the title of the ad is weird, but I'm not going to go for it if I can expect buds to have more in a couple weeks or so.

I didn't think they were common at all before the latest buying spree commenced. If you find one, buy it. There are apocalyptic shortages of everything, everywhere

There's still 4 days or so left on the auction...so if it stays around the $730 level, that'd still be a good buy? I didn't realize that the buying spree was affecting "lowly 5-shot wheelguns". Is S&W still making the no-lock 340's?
