Default New Model 63

I was looking at the new Model 63 this afternoon and really like the revolver. The dealer I was at had 2 and they both looked and felt great with smooth, well timed actions. But they both had over tightened barrels severly canted to the left. I'm amazed they could get out of the factory like this. I want one of these if i can find one with a prpoerly aligned barrel, otherwise it's a beautiful revolver.

Get one of the older M63's. Preferably one that has a pinned bbl. I have the later one with no pin, but I got a great deal on it at a gun show. These little revolvers are extremely accurate. Near as accurate as my M617. Big Larry

I agree 100% with Larry. I found this pinned M63 for $419 OTD at a local PHX gun store in '11.

I hear what you guys are saying about the older Model 63s, and in the past I've owned both 2" and 4" versions. The older ones are definately outstanding quality, but this time around I really want a 3" version. After my dealer assured me that if the barrel or anything else is wrong I didn't have to accept it, I ordered one. My price will be $594 so will see what it looks like when it arrives.

I agree - go with an older S&W, if it meets your needs. That's what I did last fall - when I found the 4" 651 below. They haven't made 651's in over ten years, so that's the only way to go for a 4" SS .22 WMR. I had bought a 5" 63 (x8) from a friend's estate some years ago, followed by my 11/10 3" 63 (x8) purchase. I modded the 5" 63, spring-wise, but the 3" 63 is box-stock - and has a better trigger! The HiViz sight inspired me - I put one - the wrong one (Look closely - it's too long!) on the 5" 63, too - and all got 60 Pro grips. Oh... as to poor QC - the unfired 651's hammer spring's yoke was jammed in the hammer - not riding on the pin, as it should have been. Easy fix - smoother/lighter DA trigger was the reward. A CF hammer spring was an improvement, too. QC wasn't perfect in 1999-2000, either.

I was able to A-B my 3" 63 with a new Ruger 4" x8 SP101 last fall. The 3" 63 was more accurate, has a better trigger, and cost barely what a McD's Happy Meal would cost more than the admittedly overpriced because it was new Ruger did. Yeah, the 3" 63 is a nice package.
