Default New 442 Ejector Rod sticking

I just picked my Bud's no lock 442 from my FFL dealer yesterday evening. I noticed the ejector rod was hanging, but I thought it just had to be cleaned.

Well, I've tried Hoppes No 9, CLP, and a little compressed air. It seems to be freeing up a little. The cyclinder is spinning a little better also.

Here's what it looks like:

It is also wearing the front of the ejector rod in one spot:

Will this free up more? I haven't shot it yet. It hangs in the same spot every time. (When the worn place on the front of the ejector rod is facing down).

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, especially since this is going to be my carry gun.

thanks,
-Kyle

the ejector rod should NOT be wearing like that.

If you don't want to disasemble it yourself -send it back to
S&W , or take it to a gunsmith.

If you are able to take off the cylinder and inspect / clean
the cylinder -yoke-and ejector rod individually you may
find a burr or debris is causing this.

Look in the gunsmithing / maintainence section of the forum - there is tons of info there.

Wearing the rod on one side would make me suspect it might be bent.

Dalton Wayne,

No, it is not cut for moon clips. Here is the Bud's link:

S&W M442 38 1 7/8 NL BL $429.00 SHIPS FREE

AKsRule,

I just sent S&W an email with these pics. Hopefully I won't get any hassle. I guess I learned the drawback to an FFL transfer. Maybe the warranty work won't take too long.

thanks for the help,
-Kyle

Yep. I just paid an extra $100 on the new 627 I bought to buy it local so I could examine it first.

bountyhunter,

I paid $80 more than I could get locally...to get it without the lock.

Well I just removed the cylinder. I could not see any burrs. The binding is not in the ejector rod and cylinder. It is there when you insert the yoke (I think that the proper name) into the cylinder, and it is only in one spot. Seems like it's something in the cylinder. I have not removed the ejector rod from the cylinder.

thanks,
-Kyle

Could be a bent center pin.

Get a good strong bore light and look through the yoke for the obstruction. It could be mfg. residue. Burr's, machining scrap, etc. Using a .22RF cleaning rod and patch with some CLP or whatever thoroughly clean out the yoke shaft hole. If need be take a wire brush and scrub it. Possibly wrap a little 0000 steel wool around the brush to burnish the inside. Then clean it very well, blast it out with compressed parts cleaner or similar cleaner. Reassemble and see if that does it. Good luck
