629-1. Bead blast finish. Magnaported. I don't know the maker of the stocks. The gun is for sale on this forum.

Those stocks are factory Smith and Wesson Combat Stocks that someone has filed down and personalized...

Your 629 is wearing smith finger groove combats with what should have metal washers to be period correct. They look like they have been taken down in order to be smaller

Look like cut down S&W round butt targets grips w/ extra relief to speed loaders........I use to do that all the time ...... before Spegel's and while waiting for Spegel's........after Spegel boot grips they are my favorite grips for guns w/ 3 inch and under barrels.

They are FACTORY original combats that came on the Lew Horton Guns...The last Finger groove has been shaved down to make it a smaller grip...No Question...

3 inch patrolman
Allen-frame took this model 28 and chopped the barrel and fabricated a big front sight. he converted the rear sight into a big sight channel and round butted the gun. It was 7 shot when i got it and I have since made it original so I can use speedloaders

Top: S&W 63 eight shot 22LR. Shot it for the first time in Steel Challenge. The trigger pull was so huge that I switched to my 617 for the rest of the match.
Middle: S&W 632 Pro .327 Federal.
I hand load .32 H&R Mag. for shooting fun at the range. When I fire of a few .327 Federal Magnums the gun reminds you that you are shooting a true magnum revolver.
Bottom: Ruger GP 100 Wiley Clapp. A revolver on steroids! The only thing that could possibly break is the transfer bar.

Hi folks,
greetings from Germany, just found this thread and thought you might be interested. 686 CS-3 "Security Special" with the Wischo stamp was the basis for the below. It received a ceramic coating, trigger job, everything was centered and optimised, works like a clockwork now. Bought it for my girlfriend who carries it as back up when hunting driven boars and on good days I´m allowed to play with it on the range, too... :-)

NICE pics....
That TALO 629, I see pics of it every now and again and I'd like to see some pics of it in the hand with someone acting like they were getting ready to shoot it.
The pictures of it just don't make it look as big as what it really is. The pics are deceiving, I think. It's hard to tell that's a 44mag and as BIG as it is.
Can you post a pic of it in your hand when you get the time? If not, that's OK. Just thought I'd ask.
Thanks
Nalajr

At my second PD job there was a cop that had a 3" Lew Horton 41 Mag, and while it looked cool, it was too big for everyday carry. The cop who owned it was fond of saying it had, "the illusion of concealability". And he was a big boy!
I bought it from him, then foolishly sold it.

That is too funny - I have the EXACT same two 3" models!
I'll see if I can post a pic of them soon.

M60 3 inch
Honey, I shrunk the 686.
Current production M60 3 inch.
Looks like a 3/4 size 686 to me.
I like the factory grip on this gun.
I ordered another of these grips off the S&W site for my M642.
I'm thinking the three finger grip will help me shoot the M642 a little better.

I have that rubber grip on my Mod 63, the little 8-round .22LR that I mentioned (is the same as in the picture just above yours). I really like that grip, just as you do. I was planning on swapping it out for some prettier wood - but I shoot it so well with those original, that I'm keeping the revolver that way.

Here's my M547 which Mr. Jinks letter says it is part of the the pilot run of 1980. There were about 40 made with the 3" barrell out of a total of 140 in the run. The s/n is 5D590XX.

All I have is a pair of threes-But I will play!!!
Here are a pair of 3 inchers, one a 627-3 in a PC v-comp and the other is a 629-5 3 inch V comp. The 3 inch pre lock V comps are seldom seen so what better place to show them off but on Allen-frames thread!! Dont they look cool in the old style high ride holsters with exposed trigger guards!!!

I got this from Lew Horton in the mid 80's when I was in the sporting goods business. The original goncalo grips are put up. It's not pristine. I used to carry it until it finally dawned on me what would happen to what little hearing I have left if I had to use it w/o ear protectors. I had it Magnaported. It did not come that way. That probably did not help its value but that's alright. I'll never sell it.

Been awhile since this thread got a bump. This new pick-up, a minty 29-3 three-inch .44 magnum belongs in this thread.

Two recent acquisitions. My first two 3" revolvers came within 2 months of each other after looking for five years. Same dealer too. He also has a 629 3", but that's too rich for my blood.
64-6 on the left 13-4 on the right.

My two 3" Smith's. It was January 1999 and I was looking for a 50th Birthday present from me to me and there they were. I used the 610 for years in IDPA, now use a 646.

Really nice looking 3" Smiths in here.
Not as many 24-3's as I expected.
But good looking hardware regardless.

My three 3 inchers:
65 Lady Smith fresh from a refinish at S&W. Well worth the 2 month wait
586 L Comp - Trigger & Action done by Mike Carmoney...known as having your action "Carmonized". Unfortunately he recently retired. I never knew it was possible to have a trigger like this on a revolver. Totally randomly lucked into it on Gunbroker. Had no idea what Carmonized meant. But now I will never forget. Anyone who has pulled the trigger on it is in awe.
686 3" - My latest addition, just picked it up 3 weeks ago. Desperately needs a trigger/action job. Worst L Frame trigger I have ever pulled. Really horrifying. Not sure how many more new S&Ws I will be buying.

New here. Thought I would add to the festivities.
My 3 inchers: 65-5, 650, & 10-8. VZ's on the K's. The 10-8 was a nickel plated mess when I got it. Robar's NP3 did wonders although there was quite a bit of pitting. Luckily, most of it is hidden by the grips. Since it's a shooter, I don't care.

I bought this for my dad's birthday last month. Started as a somewhat beat up California Youth Authority Model 64. A trigger job and a head blast plus some CT grips finished it off.

I have 3" 36, 13, 686 CS-1, 629, and the 3-and-change 27. Best barrel length for indoor work.
I can't EVER get my pics up here anymore. The Gorilla changed the drill.

I thought I had a bevy of 3-inchers, but apparently it's only a small gathering. This is most of them, but there are a few others around here somewhere.
