Jordan Trooper Stocks on a 686?

Was wondering if anyone was using these stocks and how well they liked them?

I have had Jordan Troopers on my 6" 686 no dash for about 15 years. I originally got them because I also have them on my 6 1/2" 629-3 Classic and I wanted the two guns to feel similar. I shoot 158 grain JHP with maximum load of H110 and the stocks tame the recoil extremely well. I still go back to the original target stocks now and again just because I like the looks of them. The Jordan Troopers look much better than the Hogue's that came on the 629, but I do still love the look of a 686 with the factory target stocks.

I have a couple of sets. First is a 25-5 that I don't have a picture of and second is a lew Horton 624 shown below. I like the feel but they are large even for my big hands.

Is your 686 a 4" or 6" version ? For me at least, the Jordan Troopers feel best and balance most naturally on the 4" guns. I do like that they cover the rear grip strap which helps absorb some recoil with .357's.

My 686-4 is a 4".I kind of like the idea of having a set of grips that are pretty much made for my hands.I read the Herretts Grips Web site,pretty cool.

They are made for your hands, but, you better have pretty big hands. I've tried them, they look classy. They are beautifully made. But, they are big. Having shook hands with Bill Jordan, I understand why he designed them. An N frame in his hand looks like a Chief Special in my dainty little girly hands.

I too ran into Bill Jordan several times and shook his hand. I knew also why he designed the grips. They do not work for me at all-too large. One of my co workers-almost Bill's size- used them for years and liked them. Big hands-get them. Small to average- go with walter ropers. Happy new year, Jack

I have Troopers on my 617-4 and my 629-4 and love them.Not cheap but the best and they fit my size 12 hand.

I litterally bet my life on them for years on my 586 (blued version of the 686). I carried them on duty and it increased accuracy and controlability of the gun. I special ordered them with the extra burl walnut option for a wopping $75.00, a hefty sum then when starting pay was $10,500.00 per year! I am 6'4" with size 12 hands.

I handled Jordan's guns and they seemed okay in my hands. And I used a friend's M-29 with Jordans. They vastly cut the perceived effect of .44 Magnum loads.

But they are not for smaller hands. A quarter looked like a nickel in Bill's big hands.

I can see why Bill's friend Skeeter Skelton preferred Roper grips, which he altered slightly. I think Skeeter's grips were a little thinner than some on the Roper theme.
