Default Model 66-2 3" Questions...

Recent addition to the flock and I need to ask a question or two...
According to the SC of S&W, with serial number AFK84XX it dates to late 1984, with serial numbers that started in 1985 beginning with prefix "AHA".
Could some of you guys that are more familiar with this particular firearm tell me if the front sight has been replaced?...I was thinking that it should be a ramp?
I will assume that the correct box could be either a one piece Lear Siegler or a two piece BP?
Also, I'm thinking there is a model 66 3" picture thread here somewhere and I would appreciate it if someone could direct me to it...
Also, please post pics of any you may have, especially if they show the box options.
Thanks all...

-Vic

Thumbs up My 3" Model 66 (no dash)

I recently acquired my 3" Model 66 last summer and had similar questions about my gun, as to the sight configuration and the fact that it was pinned and recessed. I have since learned "never say never to anything S&W". Alot of dealers are able to order guns for their customers with special options, sights being one of them.
Since your gun is a -2 the correct box for your gun would be a one piece flip box, with the computer generated end label. My gun being a no dash gun came in a two piece box with a silver end label designating in a stainless steel combat magnum, with a white hand written label on the other end with the serial # etc.
You have a terrific looking gun. Enjoy it. Hope that helps.

Never say never with a gun company, but as far as I know, the dash-2 Model 66 still had the front sight forged in one piece with the barrel, not pinned.

My 2 1/2" Model 66 dash-2 has a one piece barrel and front sight.
My 3" Model 66 dash-3 has a pinned front sight, but the pinning was done in such as way as to make it appear the sight was still a one piece.
The pin that holds the sight was polished flush with the barrel rib and bead blasted to make the pin hard to see.

Here's the front sight. I replaced the red insert with black and put a white oval on it. From the rear it looks like a round white dot.
Note that you can't see the pin which retains the actual sight blade.
