Small .44 magnum?
I want to look at my .44 mag revolver options before I purchase a 296. Did smith and wesson or anyone else make a hammerless snub nose .44 mag? Did they make any with a 2-3 inch barrel?

They made the 629 and 29 (stainless and blue) with a 3" barrel, but not hammer-less like the centennials. There are no 'really small' 44 magnums out there (not that you would want to shoot anyway....

They made this one with a 2.5" barrel, fixed sights and no internal lock. Still a big'un though.

Not hammerless, but the Taurus Tracker is about as small as they come.
.44 Magnum, five shot cylinder, 2" barrel, fixed sights.

Its a 629-5. 300 were made in this configuration for Camfour Dist. Co. I think a later run was made with the lock.
I've got the one, but Sebago Son has hoarded the entire far Northeast USA allotment of these guns.
What's bad about the internal lock? I dunno...never had a S&W with the lock. There's lots of threads on this forum about the lock. Do a search and they will appear.

The current PCs are about as small as you can go in a new S&W 44. I shoot mine mostly with 44Specials. The Buffalo Bore 44 Mag loads designed for snubbies and loaded for short bbls and reduced muzzle flash function very well in this gun. Dave

Sorry, I forgot about the recent fixed sight versions being 2.5"...they are a tough looking bunch for sure!

Dave,
What ammo are you referring to here? I've used the Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel with no issues, but I always like options.
I guess you can also count me in with another 629-5 here in Ohio. So, 4/300, we've accounted for 1.33%!

Am I the only one viewing this thread thinking I would buy one of those before I ever paid for the over priced PC offering??? I would go into debt to get one of those. Yet another gun I didn’t know I can’t live without…

Do you want to know how nice the triggers are? How about how well they carry in a high-ride OWB holster?
Yeah, they're nice pieces. I sold a nearly mint 29-2 once I got this. Different animals for sure, but this snubby is the whole package for me.

That BB round sounds interesting. Anybody ever try it in a 329NG?

If you're looking for a snubbie .44 look at the Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan. 2.5" barrel, you can bob the hammer-but it may be a little heavy for pocket carry.
