Looking for a CT grip for the wife's S&W 642 (No Lock!). The CT 105 is much less expensive than the 405, but the 105 is polymer and the 405 is rubber (I think). Anyone have either and an opinion on which one seems to function better in the hand. She has small hands and I want to keep this as a pocket conceal J-Frame so size is a factor. Wasn't sure if one fits these requirements better than the other. Thanks

I put an LG-305 on my new M642 (No Lock!), and the textured, rubberized, surface feels great. I like the 3-finger grip versus the 2-finger. I originally bought an LG-105 to save money, but found the hard plastic surface to be slippery. The LG-405 more closely resembles the factory grip shape. If your wife likes the feel of the factory grip, I'm sure she'll like the LG-405.

I've found great service and prices from these guys:

I have tried all 3 of the CT grips on my 442. LG305's are to large, making the gun more difficult to conceal. (Impossible for pocket carry for me.) The LG105's are to small and slippery, making the gun VERY difficlut to maintain a proper grip. The LG405's are the BEST all around grips. They conceal well, are not slippery, and are on my 442 as I set here typing this. They have been on this gun now for about 2 years. This is my EDC. Sometimes as my primary and sometimes as my back up.

+1 for 405's

You will like the 642 and the 405's.

I had one LG-105 for one range session, and didn't like the feel or the grip quality. I bought a LG-405 from Smith and was pleased enough that I purchased a second one from Smith, both with the S&W logo. They are on my 638 and 432.

I have the 405's. They are very thin, good for small hands. I have large hand and it's taking some getting used to. I got mine new for $215, the best price I've found. Go for the 405's, they have the soft rubber where the web of your hand go.

For extensive shooting at the range I'd recommend the 405. If size is extremely important and she is not going to shoot it for extended periods, the 105 is a great unit. I have used one on my 642 which I have carried daily for many years with no problems. I have qualified with this gun with scores of 95 to 100 so I don't perceive the grip material as that big a negative - and it does not "stick" to your clothing. JMHO.

Another vote for the 405s! Only a couple have mentioned the advantage of having the small recoil-dampening pocket on the back of the grip. It does make a difference in perceived recoil. I also have small hands and have no problem with the fit or grip. The 405 grip also works very well for pocket carry.

105s here

they are small, however, I was still able to use them to shoot .357 adequately. they are the best for CC. As far as being "slippery" they will not snag on pocket/ clothing/ holster--for a quick draw.

I have the 405 on my 642 and it is as advertised. rubber backstrap (sort of). Still not nice with +P's....

I vote for 305.No concealment issues front jeans pocket, shirt out. The third finger is a great help with this snappy gun. I recently achieves this 5 shot group at 15yds. handheld. the red is about an inch.

My vote is for the LG 305.

It is much easier to shoot DA, especially for older hands with arthritis.

It is only one finger width larger than the 405, and I cant tell any difference in how it fills my pocket.

I gave my wife the 405 for christmas and she didn`t like it ,so now it is for sale on craigs list for $150.

I have the CT-405 grips on my 642. As stated before, the 305's are too large for pocket carry. The 105's are about the same size as magna grips with a grip adapter. The hard polymer does make pocket carry easy, but I think the added material at the top of the backstrap on the 405, as well as the softer composition, makes it the ideal choice.
