The Classic S&W Model 27 Four Inch
I have not been able to find the right S&W model 27, blued, four inch barrel. So I bought the new Classic, love it but hate the lock. When I find the right Model 27 pre lock I will most likey sell this. I have fired it and it is a joy. Hope to find a 27-2 with box and all.

Free advice, so it's worth what you pay for it:
Never get rid of gun that you like.
Older, and at least that little bit wiser

I have that same revolver. I also have a 27-2. The 27-2 has a much nicer top strap and of course is a P&R revolver. But the classic is very nice and is just as accurate. So I say keep the classic and shoot the dickens out of it. Find a 27 or 27-2 and bang away with both.

I don't know why, but it seems to me that the 27-2 4" in BLUE is tough to find. I have ran across 3 NICKEL 27-2 4" (and bought them all) in the past 4 years, but them blued ones seem elusive.

I feel the same way you do about the lock, but if you like the gun, then get a plug for it. I could probably live with that.

Thanks for the information on this "plug". Would you guide me to the one to contact on this forum for that plug?

See the ad in the accessories section. Here's what one looks like on a 627 Pro:

If you like your 27 Classic and the quality is good, keep it and enjoy it. The "original" revolvers had quality issues just like the newer ones, although they didn't have MIM and the damned IL. I owned a half-dozen or so I bought new during the 1970s, and they all had some mechanical or workmanship problem that spoiled it for me. For example, I had a ANIB mid-70s-vintage M58 nickel that had such poor workmanship that I sold it to buy a M58 Classic, which has such good workmanship and quality that it is everything my '70s-era 58 should have been.
My long-winded point is that if you have a M27 classic that you like, that you shoot well, and that has overall good workmanship, keep it and have fun. Nothing wrong with having a "Classic" as your representative model; after all, they are still S&Ws.

Old School meets new New School
Here is the "New School" Classic Model 27 again but now it is in the "old school" presentation box and has a pair of "old school" Target grips. The lock blacked out with Birchwood Casey. Looks and feels good to me!

I want one of them.... that's sweet. I'm heading up to Smith now, hope to finally pick up my new SW500 Bone Collector. Went up yesterday afternoon, but the store was mobbed with people buying those dreaded IL guns.. and shooting in the range.. so we went home and watched Nascar.. gonna have to check out one of those 27's.... I like to keep something on layaway... Although, I'm thinking I'll be needing one of the new 1911E's.. also want a 686- 3"...

The elusive 4" 27 has been on my list for years. I know you will never be happy with that new 27, heck, I don't know how you can even stand owning it. But, since I am a generous and helpful guy, I will give $1.47 for it right now, cash money, American. Semper Fi
