Default S&W 66-2 with a 3" barrel

Was there any 66-2's made with the 3" barrel? Have never seen or heard of one until my LGS pulled one out of the back room to show me.

I thought the -3 was when they first showed up.

Yes, the first regular production 3” 66 was the -2, made for Ashland in 1985; it is the most common of the about 5500 of all variants made. Plenty of threads here discussing them.

I believe my 66-2 is an Ashland gun. I loved it the second I picked it up.

As stated by murphydog, the majority of 3" 66s are -2s.

I would have preferred a production count on all dash numbers, but this letter is very specific to the number of 3" -2s that were made

As others have stated they were made and while the 66-2 3 inch was the most common they also have the highest demand. At one point I owned almost every variation and dash number of 3 inch 66 variations and buy far the best shooting ones are the dash 2s in my opinion. Hence why I still have a shooter and anib one
