Who makes this holster? Will it work for a 642?
Anyone know what brand holster this is? Will it work for a 642? I like the way it rides high above the belt line.
Thanks!

Galco Silhouette high ride in brown leather, I suspect for the N frame based on that 8 round moon clip. They also offer it in the K and L frames but no listing for a J frame. It would probably be "workable" for a J frame due to the retention strap but I'll bet a J frame would really rattle around in it.
BTW, all of my holsters are Galco and I think they are a very good value for the money. Not as pretty as some of the custom jobs but in my area they are available off the rack with no waiting required.

I actually own the older version of this holster, built for 2"-4" K-frames...which is basically the same, just without leather over the trigger guard area. I find it rides a little high for my comfort, and as a result, is a little looser on the belt than I'd like...even with my Wilderness Tactical Instructors belt. It fits my needs for now until I find a better holster for my K-frames though. I tried putting a M640 and a M60 in it; the Centennial was a no-go from the start, wouldn't work with the retention strap and the M60 was very loose...I wouldn't trust it for carry. The newer ones may be a little more conducive to J-frame carry though. Hope this helps -Rob

Thanks to all for the replies -- appreciate the info. I'm not terribly familar with all of the S&W snubbies but I was afraid of what you guys mentioned --- the holster is designed for a bigger frame snubbie. I'd tend to agree w/ you guys that a 642 would rattle around a bit. Unfortunate -- I really like the way that holster rides high above the belt. I'm tall and that extra inch or two of the holster not being below the belt would help tremendously -- hard to find t-shirts that long.
I ended up ordering a BlackHawk Speed Classic holster for my 642 based on some reviews on this site. I like the simplicity of the holster although it does not ride as high.
I'm sure just the first of many holsters in my life!!!

I have a PWL which may ride a bit higher, but I like that design.

That Galco Silhouette would be awesome if they made it for J Frames. I cannot find a holster that rides that high for my J-Frame 640-1...

The ultra-high ride holsters combined with short barrel guns tend to tilt out a lot.
Edit to add: It's a bit hard to find thumb break holsters for Centennial J frames.

Most all GOOD leather firms make hi-ride and can custom make them for the model you wish.
