I had my late friend Monte work over my M&P 360. It is heads above what it was, but the geometry associated with a j frame simply won't allow it to feel like a fine larger framed gun such as a 29 or a 25. The smaller and shorter hammer stroke needs a heavier spring to be reliable. I have also heard the pc shop can't do much for the aluminum/scandium guns. I'm happy with it now after having it massaged.

Not by the Performance Center but I sent a M60-10 to a well known La. gun shop to have a red insert put in the front sight and to smooth the trigger surface. While there I had them do their action job. The work was well done and the action was quite a bit smoother. However, I had an occasional failure to fire that was unacceptable. I sent it back and it was reworked but I never had any faith in trusting my life to it again so I sold it.

I bought one of PC tuned J frames sold by Davidsons they did a nice job on them. There is some discussion here: Performance Center Supertune?

The post by AKAOV1MAN matches my experience I wish all my J frames were as good. If not for shipping charges I would have it done to several of mine.

I just recently went through my j frame 360 .357. I watched a couple of Brownell's YouTube videos related to action jobs, and ordered a Wilson Combat spring kit. I went threw and stoned, and polished all the internal surfaces, along with installing the lightened spring kit. All this along with a reshaped trigger, that i re-shaped and polished, gave a 100x better trigger feel. It also dramatically improved the da trigger pull, and made it have a clean crisp break. And you cant beat getting to know the internal workings of your gun along the way.

Total cost: About $50
Knowing that I did it myself: Priceless!

I've done tune ups on most all my J Frames, and I never replace the original mainspring. I do install a 13 lb rebound slide spring and de-burr and polish a few internal parts. I do not strive for "match" trigger, but a smooth somewhat lighter trigger.

My 40-1 and 640-1 actions have improved dramatically since I started using them. I haven't even cracked the sideplates.

I was told decades ago by a good gunsmith that S&W actions will wear in real nice, he was right. Had I listened to him then, I would have saved alot of money, time and parts.

No experience with the Performance Center. Austin Behlert worked on a 37 and a 29 of mine. Very impressive results, and never had a problem. I did put the hammer block back in, and restored two springs to normal, but that was my anal-retentive caution operating, not actual experience. I HAVE had issues on a K frame with weak rebound springs, but not on a J. Behlert also went with a weaker mainspring, apparently by thinning it the whole length of the spring. We all have opinions, and everyone gets to choose what he wants to bet on, but I must say that I never proved Behlert wrong. His end result DID work.

That doesn't answer your question about the PC, but it does tell you that significant improvement CAN be made even to J frames.

I had a stainless Bodyguard tuned by S&W a while back. The tuned trigger was much lighter than stock, and was extremely easy to shoot. It was literally night and day, and the work was performed quickly and cost effectively. There are numerous talented gunsmiths out there to choose from, but I'm partial to the factory.

As for PC pistols specifically, I have a PC 66-4 which is the most perfectly balanced and shooting S&W I have ever owned.

Default PC-tuned revolvers

I have three J-frames with PC-tuned actions, but they were all originally built by the Performance Center--they weren't stock revolvers that were later sent in for tuning.

Two of them are PC-640's (both no-dash, vintage 1993)...

...and one is a PC-460 Airweight (the only Airweight ever built by the Performance Center, vintage 1994):

The actions on all three are very nice, but in my opinion they're no better than any decent J-frame that's been fired a thousand times or so. (As 9303 stated above, S&W actions wear in nicely, so just shooting or dry-firing a lot can often improve the action as much as a good trigger job.) The PC actions aren't even the best I've ever found on a J-frame--that honor goes to a totally stock, CEN-serialed, +P+ marked 640 no-dash that I bought brand new 21 years ago this month. The action on that one was fantastic right out of the box, and it's gotten even smoother and lighter with years of use. It's never been worked on in any way--never even had the sideplate off in all these years--yet it's as nice as any custom-tuned revolver, and even better than the PC-tuned revolvers pictured above.

I have a PC-460 and a PC tuned 637, the 637 has a better action.
The card included with the tuned guns lists Hand stoned trigger, hammer foot and rebound seat, and a reduced rebound spring.

I understand why J frames being every day carry guns DO NOT get action jobs , but why is it so hard to get a smooth clean action pull on these? Is it because they are so small!?

Same here. But a S&W employee was doing mild trigger jobs at a local shop for charity, he worked on my 340PD and it came out nice, with a reduced power rebound spring.

Next year I brought him the same gun; he looked around to see if anyone was watching and then cut a coil or two off the hammer spring (!). It worked fine, but I later replaced both springs with Wolf that felt equal.

Gun has had over a thousand rds, never a problem.

My M60 was bought used and has an awesome trigger pull, guess someone else did all the wearing in. It's one of my favorite guns in my collection and is a keeper for life!!
