I ordered a #5 for a Colt DS in late December 2011. It arrived today. I was anxious but now I am happy.

Just sent in an order for two Colt #5 adapters last week. I'll post when I receive them.

Just recieved my December 18 order of 5 adaptors after an advertised 8 week wait. This is the second order that I have made since they restarted shipping and I am quite satisfied with service and quality. Each of my orders were followed with a confirmation phone call and then immediate shipping. Slim

I got my order last Friday. It took a little over 2 months, so I'm happy about that, and I suspected it would take a bit. Hindsight, I don't like their lack of communication, lack of contact information nor their only means for payment, but you take the good with the bad here. I would think hard about ordering again, I would likely try the BK adapter being sold by a forum member on the boards here first.

Does anyone have a telephone number for Tyler?

They only have a postal address on their website.

Just received my T-grips today. Took about 3 weeks from my mailing the check to receiving the product. I'm very pleased.

Got mine today. Took less than two weeks. Brushed brass. Perhaps different ones take longer.

Me too, 'cept mine was here in 4 days. I haven't had good service (or fit) from Tyler since Melvin died (and I live in OKC)

Maybe, after these guys(?) get their production sorted out they could get their ordering/shipping process updated a bit.

Default Instead of waiting on tyler style

I found I didn't like the T-grip as it pushes your grip ever so slightly down making muzzle flip, at least for me, noticable. I have shot a lot through this J, so I notice anything different when it happens. As I have larger hands, I did want a larger grip for the ring finger. This is what I came up with and an hour of fitting with a piece of padauk I had in the garage. This setup keeps my grip up, and gives my ring finger a good hold for the flip, it also gives an ever so slight base for pinky.

I ordered one in January...the check cleared in late January...I got my polished T-grip yesterday...and it looks fantastic!

it's a 3R for a snubby 66-3...once I finish my Flitz work I'll post pics...

for me the original Tyler T's are the way to go w/ classic P&R Smith's or any nickel or stainless S&W you want to improve upon w/o oversized grips....

I was skeptical when I placed my order... I bought from them several times years before the turmoil & have gotten a half dozen or so here on the forum, so I wondered if the new product would measure up & frankly wondered if it would come at all, but I am totally satisfied now...

see no reason why not to go w/ a T-grip if that's what you want... the wait now isn't that long & I think they are stable again from a business standpoint - all appearances point to that anyway...

my 2 cents, gents

What a bunch of goofballs - they can cash your check within two days of you putting it in the mailbox, but they can't ship their (supposedly) in-stock items in a month - if at all.

I'll update this thread if it ever shows up. What a mistake...

I ordered mine back in February and put a MO in the mail on a Saturday. My j-frame T-Grip was in my mailbox the following Thursday. 5 business days to get my part to me... Not bad.

I will be glad if they ever get all their ducks in a row. T-grips are a nice accessory if they would not make it a gamble to send off your money.

Then again... I'm familiar with a few small businesses that can hardly get anything done for answering the phone or having visitors that just want to chew the fat.

So if you have just 1 small problem its going to be one major PIA
In today's electronic age its no way run a successful business.

Sadly, true. My molding process is not precise and consistent enough to turn out physically identical units, so each has to be checked for fit on the gun it's made for, and adjusted as needed. This means I have to have one model of each of the guns for which I make adapters.

I already had J, K and N frames, but have never had a personal interest in the Colt DA's. (Not that I have anything against Colt - I've owned an 1896 Bisley model Single Action since 1968, which my father bought in 1941. It would be the last gun I'd let go.) And I haven't seen enough demand for adapters for Colts that it made business sense to buy a couple of 'em to use as fitting mules.

Same is true for the Ruger Speed/Security Sixes. I had a Security Six years ago that I have always regretted letting go, but just don't see enough demand for adapters to make it worth buying another one of the guns.

Ah, c'mon Wrangler5; just having them is reason to get those guns!! THEN you can find ways to make money off them!

I confess that there was a time when I subscribed to that point of view. But even when I was making good money I had absolutely no personal interest in Colt double actions. And since I retired, and my retirement investments went in the tank, I have to be a bit more realistic about spending money. (Despite what they may tell you in planning-for-retirement seminars, aggregate living expenses aren't that much lower after you quit working full time.) So I have to look at Colt DAs strictly as business investments, and so far the math just hasn't worked in favor of getting any. I wish it were otherwise, but . . .

FYI, Wrangler5, the two J-frames adapters you just sent me work just fine on Charter Arms. They'e a tad long, but that's an easy fix. I put one on my .44 and the wife's .38.

Sent Tyler a check 10 days ago. Check cleared five days ago. Received silver metal grip adapters today.

Ordered BK grip adapters on Saturday. The black plastic grip adapters arrived in my PO Box Today.

After hearing I'd probably be waiting for the Tylers'; I ordered the BK thinking it would be faster. I was pleasantly surprised!

wrangler5, a couple of photos to show the 'fit'. As you can see, they're just a 'smidgen' too long, but fit otherwise.

Thanks for the photo. That extra length is easy to take care of with a file or sharp knife. Nice to know the curvatures are the same.

Thanks for the link to BK.

I placed an order for two grip adapters for K-Frames with them.

I had gone to Tyler’s web sight yesterday and didn’t order because of the whole “print our an order form, and mail it” thing. As well as no contact phone information listed.

I then went to the last page of this thread, and am glad I did.

Crofoot, your adapters are in the mailbox and will be picked up later today. I wouldn't be surprised if you have 'em on Thursday, and I'll be very surprised if they aren't there by Friday. Thanks for the business.

Appears they are shipping orders. I mailed my order on 4-16 the check was cashed on 4-24 and I received the items on my order on 6-2. So I'am happy.

Personnaly I don't see the big deal about grip adapters, I waited myself for about 4 months for a j frame and k frame, when I got them I thought what in the Heck did you want these for. My trusty altamonts and target grips designed by Smith was a good enough fit as they were, I quickly sold the overated Tyler adapters and haven't looked back sense.

I like the grip adapters because with my 581 my middle finger knuckle doesn't hit the back of the trigger guard. With the adapter the flat part of my finger is behind the trigger guard. This is much more comfortable.

On the older Smiths people like to keep the original "look" of the revolver.

Well, like an idiot I didn't look for this thread or do a search for any response on Tyler T grips & now I have paid for it; literally.

I paid for 6 T grips and have received none. JR won't return phone calls & if you order from this company get ready to be ripped off.

My initial phone call was answered and viola he said he had them in stock & everything someone wanting a T grip would like to hear. So payment was sent in, cashed within days, but NO T grips yet.

Now JR won't return any calls or anything. If you buy T grips you will get ripped off. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB about this. I despise a thief of any sort.

If by some miracle I receive my order in the future, I will update it here. At present, everything is bleak to say the least. Sorry for the rant but I wanted to inform folks here or update already informed and maybe enlighten a few new people.

Tyler T = Buyer Beware !! NO = Buyer Stay Away

I don't know what is going on with this company.

I order one and received it within a couple weeks.

I guess its just a matter of when you order and how things are going at the company.

I have been waiting 6 weeks or more now. The real kicker is that when he told me he had them in stock, he (JR) stated he would mail them USPS the next mailing day which would have been a Saturday morning.

Have patience. JR has another job that pays the rent and may not be available to answer the phone 24/7. I bought several pairs a month or so ago and had them in my hands about 2-3 weeks later. I'm betting you will get your grips and be very happy with them. The quality of the product is excellent. They are worth waiting for. Patience........

It would be nice if someone would buy this company and DIDN'T operate it as a sideline!

OK, this thread has gone on for 14 pages! Every few weeks someone will come on with some new insight into their good or bad experience with the original company, a couple of folks will rebut or support their post, then someone will tell us that BK or somebody will give us just as good or better products, cheaper and faster. Is there a point to flogging this caballo muerte?
Maybe a new thread could be built around options available in grip adaptors and perhaps another about business practices in the specialty gunsmithing trade, but I'm not sure anybody would change their opinion or plans based on either. Maybe this could be made into a sticky or placed under the category for FAQs, but then again, to what benefit? Could we just let sleeping dogs lie for awhile?
