Price check on model 29-2 8 & 3/8"
Stopped by my LGS and found a model 29-2 with a 8 and 3/8" barrel in the case with other Smiths. No box or papers, seems to be in 85-90%. Bluing was in pretty good shape overall. Action was sweet! Single action was very light and double action was light and buttery smooth! Asking price was $550.00. Is it a good deal?

Lot of difference in my mind between 85 and 90% I would not pay over $400 for an 85% gun but might goes as high as $500 for a 90% gun. Of course the more scarce the gun the higher the price in any condition. A 29 with the long tube in 90% should be a $500 out the door priced gun in my book. Then you have to factor original grips in the mix etc etc etc.

I bought a mint 29-2 with 8 3/8 barrel for $850 but there is a huge difference between a mint copy and a 85% to 90% revolver. I think that $550 is absolutely the top price for one in that condition and would try to get it for $500. I bought a 6 inch 29-2 in 98% condition for $600 with presentation case and that was a great price so to me $550 is to high as far as I'm concerned.

I saw a mint 29-2 with the 8-3/8" tube in a wooden presentation case at a show 4 weeks ago for an asking price of $800. Original grips, no bluing wear I could see, etc. I want an old M29, but have no use for a model with that long of a barrel so I passed.

It did have the original wood (Goncalvo?) grips and they were in good shape. I will go back and see if they will take 500.00. Thanks for the input fellas!

29-2 nickel
I agree with fyimo. An 85-90% example should be $450-500, tops. I bought a 90-92% nickel 27-2 with 8 3/8 bbl over the Winter for $500 OTD, but as other people have said, there can be a big difference between 85% and 90%. Good luck.
