Default Get a model 25-13 Colt cut for 45acp.

I’m trading a member a 41mag for a 45 Colt.

It is a new caliber to me, some friends gave me some ammo and brass and the trader is including a set of dies so I will be starting to load for it too.

I have a 625-3 in 45ACP and love it. I have hundreds of clips.

I wonder if getting the 25-13 Colt cut by one of the pros to accept moon clipped 45ACP or Colt would be a good idea.

Anybody have it done?

I had a 25-13, and honestly I really fell in love with the .45 Colt. I'm assuming yours is a Mountain Gun like mine was and I'll tell you I wish I had never sold it but I needed the money. You might be better off buying a 625 4-inch or one of those never Smith's like the Thunder Ranch guns already in .45 ACP. If it were me, I would keep it in .45 Colt, its a great caliber.

Here you go. You could also hunt up a spare cylinder if you wanted to be able to keep the gun all orginal.

If you should have it done, I also recommend TK Custom. However, the 45 Colt is a great round.

I bought a spare cylinder with this intention. I have not had a chance to do this because I am stuck in the desert (visibility right now measures in feet).

I tried this once with a 25-7 and it was a disaster. I'll never have it done again. If you want to butcher a spare cylinder to how well it does or does not work, that would seem to me the best alternative.

I wouldn't-- I love both calibers equally. Have3 revolvers in 45 acp and 6-8 in 45 Colt, including a 25-2 (45 acp)and a 25-5 (45 Colt).

Default Please Don't Do It

The 45 Colt is a great round. Since you've got reloading gear for your new gun, try it out and see how you like it. This is a very easy round to reload and it doesn't have to be pushed hard to be a real thumper. Brass will last forever, and 255 LSWC bullets are everywhere. The cost of the custom work would buy a lot of bullets and a couple of speedloaders to play with. Just my humble opinion...

Question

I have two beauty's in .45 Colt.

I asked about this a few years ago.

The accuracy question seemed to be the main issue.

Seemed split about 50-50 with people who actually did
the moon clip conversion.

You will lose nothing functional for shooting .45 Colt, but
you will no longer have a pristine .45

If you do it, please report the results.

Good Luck

I have a Ruger black hawlk with two cylenders 45acp and 45lc
practise is great with the acp but hunting is better with the lc. the biggest worry I have is putting hot lc loads in my 2nd model H.E. solved that with jacked bullets for the hot lc.?Spend your money how ever you wish but these little prodjects can get expensive.

I'm about to purchase a 625 mountain gun and I was curious about this as well. I can still shoot 45 colt after having this done right? The back of the cylinder and extractor are recessed not faced off? I'd like to be able to shoot both. The vast majority will be 45 colt but Id like to have the option. Thanks.

Here's my experience with a 627 V8 S&W in 38/357:

The factory version is incredibly versatile in using or not using moon clips.

Very satisfying in ICORE matches and speed steel. No accuracy issues noted in bench-rest target use.

No down side found in the 4 years I've been using this pistol.

Certainly I'd give conversion a try should there be any justification however slight, to do such.

I've had great results using the factory set up, but none yet with the custom work.

Considering the expense, every time I get close to making the purchase, I stumble across a deal on some other entire revolver.

Having been there, done that, I can assure you that you will be much happier either:
1. Getting an extra cylinder fitted.
2. Better yet get another gun in 45 ACP.

I decided not to have the gun cut for ACP.

I did get a 325 Thunder Ranch that sees the range a lot more than the 45 Colt ever will. I like the gun but I think it will be more of a I have one of those too guns than a big time shooter.
