Talking 17-6's new companion

I've been shooting the 17-6 at 50' slow fire for a while now. The 17-6 shoots more accurately than I can ever hope. So why did I get this 41 yesterday? Maybe because it's a pre 1970 ser.no. 76103, maybe because it has the cocked indicator, or perhaps because it's been hardly fired? Well maybe, but I guess because I didn't have one. I wonder which will shoot better?

Those may be the best looking combats I have ever seen.

Try them both with Eley Ten-X...it'll bring out the max in both guns. The revolver may surprise you.

Exactly what I said the first time he posted a picture of 'em. I believe the grain on both panels is a very close match. Carl, how about posting a picture of the other side?

Best I remember the gun itself was in pretty rough shape with quite a bit of surface rust, etc. You did a great job cleaning it up and making it worthy to wear those grips.

Great looking S&W's and I like them grips too. I had a 41 and own 2 17-3's. One a shooter and one that goes to my grandaughter for her 16th birthday as it's ANIB. Have fired them both slow fire using all types of different ammo. The most accurate rounds in them to my surprize was Federal Spitfires followed by Winchester Power Points and a close third were Eley's. Heck, even Remington Bulk ammo shoots great in the17. Sandbagged at 25 yards they both shoot 1/2"-1" groups all day and the difference in accuracy was negligible. Offhand at 25 yards the 41 was the more accurate handgun by a tad and I believe it was due to the heavier barrel and balance but your 17 has the lug so offhand my guess is they will be neck and neck if you do your job.

Wish I would of kept the 41(:. Have fun on your accuracy quest and try some of the cheap ammo. You never know which brand shoots the best in any gun until you try them.
