Any Info about an honest selling price would be great.
I found it at a local gunshop and have no idea what to offer.

There is one exactly like yours NIB with all, serial number MAG 0629, that a local gun shop has been trying to sell for a L O N G time, and has been collecting dust and it is priced a $995. The concept is nice, with the presentation case, registration certificate and the sights that interchange, but the small round butt grip combined with the heavy full lug 7 1/2" barrel kind of really hurt the gun's value. I would ask the dealer/seller how long he had it, and try to buy it for around $700, or less. I think the original price was a little over $600 dealer cost in 1990. A pair of "N" round to square butt conversion grips would help alot with handling/shooting the gun, but then the case would not fit the gun. I really don't think that there is really any serious down the road/make alot of money return on these Magna Classics, but who knows Just my opinion. Hope that helps.

What is the shop asking for it? I'm with Model 39 on this one. Especially in the longer barrel length.

I have no powers of prognostication, but I've always thought these revolvers were/are undervalued.

Limited edition, first ones with the new interchangeable front sight and other enhancements, and very fine finishing.

I remember reading an article in Shooting Times when they first came out, and the S&W rep called them "the most accurate revolvers you'll never shoot".

I wanted one for years, and finally did get a 629 version. I think a $1000.00 is reasonable, but if I had any financial prowess I'd be typing this at home in my PJ's instead of from work.

There's no telling what collectors will or won't find desirable in the future, but they do shoot very well. Put some bigger grips on them, and the long, lugged barrel really soaks up the recoil.

I have noticed several of these 7.5" on GB lately as I have been watching activity in M29's. One example that was in very nice condition but did not include any box, case, papers or other extras ended up selling for $405 mostly due the owner's ending a short auction on a Sunday morning when nobody was looking. Several others that have been slightly used have been unsuccesfully looking for bids in the $700 area. They simply don't seem to be in big demand at this time.

I also believe all of these classic series 29's from the early 90's are an excellant value right now. I have picked up two regular 5" and a 6.5" DX within the last year and a half. I believe they will increase in the days ahead!

I have one of these, a polished SS version, that I bought recently from a friend. The gun is NIB and is accompanied by all the accessories, including a beautiful presentation box, just as it came from the factory, like yours. I consider myself very lucky to have found one of these remarkable revolvers after having seen a picture of a blued one on page 200 of the Standard S&W catalog. I paid my friend $850 for the gun, and was happy to do it, having wanted one for some time. In my opinion, a gun (or anything else, for that matter) is really only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, never mind what the book or so-called experts say. I think you'll do well in the acquisition of a Magna Classic, and whether you shoot it or consign it to your safe as a worthy queen, to be taken out and looked at and shown to fellow enthusiasts from time to time, your appreciation of it will only grow. There are only 3000 of these revolvers, of which 1500 are blued and 1500 are stainless, so go buy it if you can afford it; you won't regret it!

What does the gun store have it priced at?

The shop owner quoted me a price of $900. To me, after holding it and seeing the 2.75 inch 50 yard target from the mothership, i feel the price is right.
I was talking to my wife and the purchase,( big mistake on my part) who reminded me about the $800. GSP pup I bought this spring, and all the other costs that will be needed to take her to the game farm before shes ready to hunt this fall.
So like i said in the begining, a man can always dream for free, at least until the gov finds out how to rais taxes on dreams.
If anyone here is interested, I will post it in the classified forums, along with my email addy, and I will send the FFLs name , number and address to any one who would like it .
