For OWB, I like my Blackhawk Speed Classic at 4:00. For IWB, my wife likes her Remora basically in cross draw position.

+1 for the Blackhawk Speed Classic for OWB. It's extremely comfortable and with a solid belt, I almost forget its there.

I hardly ever belt carry a 642, belt carry duty goes mostly to a 1911, but when I do, I like this DeSantis 002.

I like the easy on & off of my early A.E.Nelson Leather Company paddle . I barely know my 37 is there and no fooling with my belt

Try a Bianchi Pro 100 IWB, easy on and off with a sturdy clip and high rise skin guard. I use one on a model 49 and hardly know it's there, plus I think they are less than forty dollars a bargain in leather holsters.

For OWB a Lobo Avenger. Lobo IWB for discreet carry. Both together are less than $120.00 for 2 custom built holsters.

RKBA makes a great IWB with an offset clip. For a pocket holster I like the Tuff products holster with a space for a speed strip

The best holster is your front pants pocket.

I got a Galco Kingtuk IWB holster for my 2" .357 at Cabela's for $50. It's a leather and kydex mix ... it works very well.

If you go for IWB style I strongly recommend you go for one with an offset clip (i.e., one that doesn't have the belt clip on top of the cylinder) AND offers tuckability (the clip is on a tab that lets you tuck a shirt over the gun and behind the tab, so all that shows on the belt is the clip.) The Bianchi 100 Pro mentioned above has the clip over the cylinder, and will be a thicker package inside your belt, while the RKBA has an offset clip and should be less bulky. I believe the RKBA is also tuckable, but it's hard to tell from the image I'm looking at on their web site.

You don't have to use the tuckability feature - in fact I use mine only rarely, as I tend to wear sweaters in cooler weather and untucked shirts in the heat. But on those occasions when you want it, it's there.

I just bought a 642 today and was thinking about holsters. It occurs to me that I've got several old Tyler T-grips and a Barami hip grip that I might combine. If I didn't have the Tylers I would go with the new BK grip adaptor.

I'm not sure of a great holster, at least for my J frame. 1911's I know I bought a Bianchi Minimalist last weekend and really like the fit on my belt, but my 442 fits so loose I may return it. Maybe someone bought it before me and broke it in with way too many plastic bags, or a bigger than designed gun, and stretched it beyond what it should be. They had a Galco paddle that was a good tight fit which I may try instead. I've never used a paddle before but have been curious. What I want is a VM2, or maybe a Rosen rig, but can't wait. Unfortunately I need something now, and stores are really short of lefty stuff. It's as if no left-handed shooters exist besides me.

Best holster is the one you don't leave home. Personally I find IWB holsters uncomfortable and belt holsters time consuming to put on. I like paddle or snap pancake holsters for convienience. Have to say my Lobo Leather Custom is a GREAT holster for under $60. On/off in seconds and it holds the grip tight to my side.
