Model 13-3
I went into the local store today to pick up an speedloader, and noticed some new additions to the revolver case. One was a model 13-3 which is on consignment for $450. I didn't take a good look at it since I wasn't in the market for it. It is a shame because I haven't seen a model 13 before. It looked to be in reasonably good condition. There was also a model 66 going for $550 and a 686-6 for about $550 as well. I saw a model 15, but didn't look that closely at it.
I won't be buying anything until the end of year, if not later. Hopefully that model 13 will still be there though I am not too sure whether $450 is a good price for it.
Depressing, but just can't afford another gun at this time. Another one will probably come by when the time is right.

If it is a 3" barrel that's a pretty good price. If a 4" it's about what I'd expect or maybe a little high, even a for a gun shop but condition does play a part in that. Either way I would not expect it to be there till the end of the year.
I know what you mean about gun $$$.

I paid 450 for this one...
13-3 & 65-3
... and thought it was a good deal.
(Shooting4life has a $600 gun! Very nice with those combats. )
Go for it if the revo's in good condition. Sell somethin' & go get it!

I agree that it probably won't be there in six months, but one can hope. The model 66 has been there for a month. I am hoping that either people think the gun is unlucky due to the number or people don't know what that gun is. Some of the revolvers have been for sale for several months, and don't look to be moving any time in the near future. I guess people would rather go for brand new Glocks. Even some of the used semis have been there for a while.
I think the price is a bit high as well, but might be worth if it is in good condition or had the box and everything with it. If by some chance the gun is still there at the end of the year, I expect to offer less if the gun is in good shape. I did check an online auction site, and there are model 13s for less right now so if I don't get the one at the store, no big deal. Then again now that I have a J frame, K frame, and L frame, I really look into a model 27 or 28.
But it will be a long time before I buy anything again.

That's a pretty good price on the 13; I paid $550 for one with combats a while back and felt that was a good price.
Truth be told, though, I was much happier with the $500 I spent on a minty model 64 3" a few months later. I much prefer to shoot .38 specials out of a 3" k-frame.
In any case, the gun would be a good short-term investment - the 3" guns are sought after.

It might have been a 4" gun as I didn't take a good look at it, but it seemed to be a longer barrel. Either way I won't be buying it unless it is still at the store in six months. I am sure I will be kicking myself if the gun isn't there when I am ready, but I just spent money on ammo for the guns I do have so I am out of the gun buying business for a while. I just have to stay out of the gun store.

My Model 13-3 3" HB
This is my Model 13-3 which I purchased Brand New in March 2012. I only fired a few shots in it. I heard that I should not fire Magnums in this revolver, as they may rupture the forcing cone. Is this true ?

Icemoh1, you'll be fine shooting 158gr 357s, or 147, it was the 110 and 125 grain 357 loads that were cracking forcing cones from my understanding.
There are plenty of great offerings in 357 w/ higher bullet weights, you won't be remiss in using them over the lighter fare.

I don't think a 3" exist anymore...in any model. I've been all over the place and if you find one someone just bought it before you or it's beat, scratched up.

Actually, I live in Cairo, Egypt. I bought this revolver from a local gun store that managed to store it properly. I am the first owner of this gun.

Yeah, Egypt. There are a lot of nicely kept and maintained S&W revolvers here.

I picked up a 4" yesterday and put 200 rounds through it, mostly .38 range stuff and +P. This one is a keeper, more accurate than I am. We carried the Model 15 during my LEO days, before switching to autos. I'm still a wheel gun guy and shoot revolvers better than the semi autos.

The last 3" model was the later 65's, I believe the 65-7 but I'm not sure. Saw it on GunBroker, with the IL, 2-piece barrel and a 3" tube. It sold pretty quick. I have also seen a few 3" 64-8's made for a limited order by Brinks as well as 3" 66-7's.
S&W no longer makes any 3" K-frames that I'm aware of.

In February, I bought a 4" blue M13 with holster wear and Pachs, no box or original grips, but mechanically excellent, for $330 at a local pawn shop.

GF you're killing me. Two of my favorite 3"ers of all time. Throw in a 547 and it would be complete (for me, anyway).

So, $300-$350 on a M13-2 3" would be a good deal then?

$300/$350 for a P&R model 13-2 with 3" barrel would be an excellent price if it is in good condition.
You should be showing pictures of your new gun.

Here's my 13-3
and a 65-5 LS w/o the logo. Mag-Na-Port refinished it.

450.00 wouldn't touch my 13-3. However, I wouldn't mind adding a 3" 65 to the stable to keep it company.
