Welcome to the forum eagleeyeone!
Smith & Wesson changed 686s to the modern internal parts without the firing pin attached to the hammer during 1997 and increased the dash number to 5 to signify that engineering change. Any made before then will meet the one requirement you mentioned wanting, so it should be easy to find one. You could start by looking in the classified for sale ads here. I bet you get a lot of them offered to you if you post a wanted to buy ad. All the 6" 686s I've seen had full lug barrels which makes about the perfect weight and balance for me for target shooting but rather heavy in a holster. Lots of people don't like the nose heavy balance at all so if you haven't already fired one I suggest at least handling one before you make the purchase.
Best Regards,
Gil
