I'd go with pretty much anything they made before 1990.
Oh, wait - I can generally find such guns at gun shows now, and pay about half the price I expect they'd charge for the new ones...

I think that a 4 or 5 inch barreled version of the NightGuard series would be nice. I love everything about my 315NG, but a longer barrel would make it "perfect-er"! I'll take 1 in .45, too....

My two dream guns from S&W.....
A stainless steel four inch L-Frame with a half lug ejector shroud, adjustable sights, round butt, and chambered in 10mm Auto. No damn lock of course.
I'd also love a 5 inch single action 4006TSW with a integrated light rail, tritium novak sights, and no mag disconnect. Would love for S&W to make higher capacity mags for it too. Bump them up to 13rd-15rd.

A 4" fixed sight blued steel N-frame in .455 Webley. "Ridiculous" but I want one.

Put me down for a 10-rnd 22LR Night Guard built on one of those 315 Night Guard K frames S&W won't be using as originally intended

A 3" whatever frame, 7 round mag and ambi safety.
Wait? Are we talking Revolvers? I really don't know. But I am seriously curious about the 'dash', or 'no dash'. What does that mean?
I'm quite happy with my 442 (IL and all), and I know my wife likes her Model 60, so neither of us have any complaints about our choices in S&W. My guess is we'd argue if we had to choose handguns that we both liked, from the same manfacturer, if it was anyone else.

6" barreled full lug X-frame, no lock, chambered for 44 magnum, fitted with the easily swappable front sight, glass bead blasted finish, fitted with Nill grips (phil hemphill model).
Alternatively, some kind of wholly new frame thats an inbetween of a N and X frame, much like the L-frame is to the K & N frames. Once again for 44mag and full lug.

I didn't see it mentioned, so here's what I'd like to see for a build it your own; with options. Since the demise of the 547, I've wanted to see a good 9mm option for awhile, I was never crazy about the 940, but it would include options like that (J-frame).
If I could build my own optioned and ordered revolver, it would be a L-Frame, 9mm (7 round), two peice barrel (like the 619/620) heavy barrel, semi-lug, fixed sight, 4" barrel round butt, and in stainless. Finally, the old 547 cylinder system, which did not require moon clips. In the end, it would look something like this photo (my current 619)
Options could be K-frame (6 round), moon clip version cylinders, 2 1/2 to 3" barrels, adjustable sights, full lugs, etc., but what I listed first is what I would order.
At this point, I'd just be happy if they simply re-ran the 547 production line, or at least made the current model 64 with a 9mm moon clip option.

Performance Center "one off"
Quote:
...This attached picture shows my prototype alloy cylinder 442. I had a very good friend in the Performance Center one day in the mid-1990s who knowing I liked weird stuff called me and said they had finished a run of 442 revolvers for the U.S. Secret Service who wanted an extra light gun to wear on the ankle for Clinton's morning jogs.
They had one of the un-fluted alloy cylinders left and he told me "go buy a 442 and send it to me, I'll put this cylinder in your gun and it will be identical to the guns we made for the Secret Service". ...member GHEN

1. X Frame 454 Casull, Double action 6 shot revolver
2. Remove the keylock
3. Mark off Must have all solid steel milled construction, no aluminium threads for the barrel like on that titanium framed 340PD
4. remove barrel lug, replace it with old style ejector rod shroud
5. Proper bluing job, Colt and Walther Level of polish
6. Walnut Wood Grips with Palm Swell like the Pachmayr grips and the old Coke Bottle style grips
7. Solid 1 inch thick Wood case with two key locks lined with a very durable suade like materal that doesnt hold moisture and wont mar the gun
price: 1000 bucks for the gun, 100 - 200 extra for the display case and custom wood grips

I bought S&W model 29-3 ( built 1988). Some my friends have said me, that the barrel without pin is not so good as pinned barrel. Barrel turns open , loosen etc... Is it true and is it possible to add the pin later?

N frame round butt .357, 3 & 1/2" barrel, fixed sights, "T" trig and "T" hammer. Pinned and rec. Cyl. No lockey. The same gun in .45 LC would do just fine, too.

L frame 5- shot .45 acp 3" barrel, stainless.
Model 617 without the lower lug, similar to the model 67 barrel profile.

A 3 shot, 1 7/8", .44Mag J-frame (or equivalent, just big enough to fit the round). I shall name it either ManMaker or WidowMaker! (depending on the first shooter's fate)

On the serious side, if I must...:
An 8-shot .32-20 N frame with 6" barrel. Make a scandium version and we'll call it a 328.

Theoretically, it's possible for the barrel to loosen. As a matter of probability, no. While I prefer pinned and recessed 29s, I do have a 29-3 blued 6" that has never given trouble. I consider it a shooter rather than a collectible. There would be no real advantage in trying to add a pin; leave it alone.

I would like to see options to this such as 3" or 4" barrel,
various sights, round or square butt, ports or none, various
grips.
They would sell a bunch of these I suspect.

5" 624 with accuracy and action job, custom wood.
5" 629 (no dash) plus the above.

I'll take a 6" Model 10 Heavy Barrel, round butt, with target hammer and trigger.
I've always had a soft spot for the 6" M&P's-M10's, and I love the 4" HB's, and I always thought a 6" HB would be a winner.
While they're at it, I'll take a 64 the same way

I would ask for a 10MM L frame with 3" barrel with moon clips and in round butt configuration. Stainless steel, bead blasted with a medium heavy short lug barrel with a good set of rubber grips.
The 10 MM when properly loaded with 200 grain and heavier bullets is not that much less than a .41 Mg., so I would think that properly loaded, it would be adequate against anything up to and including black bear. And with less robust loads it is death delivered to bad guys.
I would guess that an L frame in a 3" 10MM would be south of 36oz in weight, so it should carry well.

A 12 round, factory "action-tuned", bright blue N-frame .22LR, with a 12" heavy barrel, no sights, factory drilled/tapped/equipped with Leupold scope mount, with reproduction coke-style target grips.
How's that for wet 'n wild?

What if S&W had a make-your-own-revolver program?
I would be cast hopelessly into backruptcy. My child would not got to college. My wife would divorce me.
I would be living under a bridge with a full gunsafe and a smile that would light up the world.

Stay out of my mind!
I had the same idea except mine was a 4 inch with adjustable sights.... but I'd order your 3 inch with fixed sights.

Build me a model 696 with a 3 1/2 inch bbl, same profile as the bbl. on a model 27, 3 1/2" . Same sights and topstrap/bbl.rib treatment too(No front sight insert and no white outline). Put a target hammer on her and a semi target width trigger with a highly polished trigger face. Build it out of carbon steel and polish it to the max then blue it . Make the single action trigger break like a glass rod and set the weight of both single and double action for safe carry/combat. Round butt of course with smooth magnas out of birdseye maple. I'll put the Tyler grip adapter on her when she gets here. Hey Smith and Wesson, I'm waiting...and oh yeah, leave off the IL.

I forgot to include that, about the sights. I too would want adjustable sights and I certainly would not turn down a 4" barrel gun in this configuration either.

Scandium or Aluminum K-Frame .357, 3", fixed sight, shrouded rod. (basically an Airweight M-65)
Maybe same deal in a 7-shot .327.
Oh, no IL please.

First and formost-no lock and no MIM.
My recipe for the perfect carry revolver.
Stainless .45 Colt N frame with the cylinder machined to take .45ACP in moonclips. Tappered barrel and fixed sights. 4" Square butt.
Think an enlarged M64

How about an 8 3/8", n-frame, 7-shot, .357 maximum?
It would be a great hunting gun.

One of each, a fixed sighted .44 Mag. & a mod 58. Hammer mounted firing pins, no lock, & round butt so you could put either a square butt or round butt stocks on them. The .44 should be sighted at the factory for 245/255gr bullets & the 58 sighted for 220gr bullets @ 25 yards. The front sights should be pinned in similar to the new mod. 21s so it could be changed if you wanted to.
Well we are dreaming, right?

Love all the "if they would only build" gun ideas.
As for the "custom order" program, they have already done that. Back in the mid '80s S&W had an advertising campaign where you could order most stock model numbers and have a choice of barrel length, hammer, trigger and sights. I think that was in those Bangor-Penta days. As I remember, mine took about 4 weeks.
I ordered a 686 with 8 3/8", adjustable front sight, target hammer and target trigger. It was a fine gun, very tight and accurate.

That might be more realistic on an X Frame. While we are discussing
the 1.6" rounds, I would not mind a .445 (.44 Maximum) on
the X Frame. SQUARE butt, Stainless, High-Viz or See-More
front sight, polished combat trigger, and the rest of the
slickness list.
I suspect the metallurgy of the 460Mag is superior to that of
my Dan Wesson .445 of 25 years ago. It seems to be on the edge
of being able to handle the energy involved. I don't shoot it any more.
