Default Help identifying build date of my 640-1
Just picked up a 640-1 police trade. Nice gun...especially for $399.99! Would like to find out what vintage and any special comments.

M640-1
357 mag
2 1/8" barrel
Serial # CVSxxxx
No lock

Had S&W factory compact grip. Might not have been what it came with though.

Appreciate any input.

SCofS&W 3rd Ed, page 401, says:
Jul. 2004 CSR (327) 7-22-04
Oct. 2004 CTA 342 CTA6329
Sep. 2003 DEW (329-1)

Which makes no sense to me.

I was able to talk to a Smith and Wesson customer service rep today. She advised date of manufacture to be 4/2014. Were they only making 640-1 models for LE contracts at this period and not for the general public as they converted to 640-3?
