Picture request rosewood grip K Frame
Hi,
I have seen on the S&W site they have K-Frame SB rosewood grips, and would like to see how they look on a K Frame -14 or 617 6" are my candidates for this. I certainly like the look, so would one of you have pictures, and how do they feel for range-shooting (medium hand size) ? I have added the picture of the grip below from the S&W official site. I had not the slightest idea on which subforum to post, so please move if wrong.
Thanks in advance - B686

Here are some K frames, both blue and stainless, with combat grips. Although not rosewood, you can get an idea how the combats look on the K frames.

I'll order a set
Thanks for the pictures, these look definitely good for my taste. Couldn't tell they are not wood, but that might have other advantages (for maintenance and so). I have Arhends on a 547 3", and they are perfect indeed. These ones however look like ... wow.
PMRet, I tried to find 'real' combats like yours here in Belgium, but the only way to get a hold of these -what else with grips :-) - is to buy a used gun with some on, if the previous owner did not take them off first. Never found them separately.

My S&W rosewoods in the photos above are definitely laminated wood, not plastic.
And if you watch sites like GunBroker.com and GuneAmerica.com, you'll see S&W Combat stocks for sale. I've bought two beautiful pairs, one on GB and (I think) the other was on here. One set was $85 and I forget what I paid for the other.

Altamont - Pistol Grips
I'm pretty sure they are from Altamont. If you call them you can order them from any of their laminate wood colors, have them checkered, they make them in bonded ivory, they do scrimshaw, and are very nice people to work with on a custom order.

There is a wide variation in Rosewood color being marketed today.
If you are looking for traditional blood red Rosewood color like those shown below you may be sadly disappointed. These K frame "footballs" are of Brazilian Rosewood and that wood is no longer being sold by S&W. They and other manufacturers are currently marketing other types of "Rosewood" that often don't match the commonly desired dark color.
Brazilian Rosewood is considered "endangered" and isn't readily available.
I wouldn't consider buying any Rosewood grips unless I could see them in person first...
JMHO....

i really like the look of the combat grips on the 66, esp in rosewood. i was on gunbroker recently and there is a model 66 combat on there with awesome stocks on it. i really would like to find a set of them, but i think they may be factory issue so i dont know where to look first. Does anyone know if S&W sell those grips? I like them because they have a flat bottom as opposed to the really rounded bottoms. They almost look like hogue bantam grips but in rosewood.

On the S&W site, you can buy the ones I included pictures from in the OP.
I do agree with TDC, and would prefer to see first, but living in Belgium, the closest I can get to these beauties is over the net. So I placed my bet and bought some directly from S&W, hoping they will look as good on my 14-3 as on the pictures. I might try Altamont on another project however.

that is a picture of the grips i am looking for. I beieve they are rosewood combat grips, but all the ones i see online have different bottom edges, anyone know the manufacturer of the stocks in the picture? There are no medals so i dont think they are stock, i have a 1976 mod 66 that would look awesome with those grips. Thanks for any help guys!
edit:
S&W Smith Model 66 Combat 357 Magnum Stainless : Revolvers at GunBroker.com
that is the link to the GB auction where i found the grips, there are better pics.

That gun has been listed at least six times that I know of. By now, I would have gotten the message that my price is too high. But then, there's a Model 66 that's been on there for two months with a minimum bid of $535 and a "Buy Now" of $599. Funny - the same gun is for sale by the same seller on GunsAmerica for less!
