New 627 PC 2 5/8" N-frame
Just ordered and recieved a new 627pc snubbie....I love the gun except...........When I took it out of the box at my local transfer dealer, I found that the barrel was not square to the frame if anything it appears to have been overtightened. I keep reading posts about the waning quality of "New Smith & Wessons" just never thought it would happen to me....guess that'll teach me to order through the mail. Needless to say this one is on its way back to the warranty center for a repair....
Anybody had any recent instances with poor manufacturing quality we can gripe about. I mean seriously for a gun that is suppose to have something a little extra, which is what I assumed the performance center is all about, this sucks...anything that costs apprx $1000.00 should be looked...fitted, tuned, and assembled by hand.

I feel your pain.

Yes, it should be assembled by hand and inspected 100%, but Smith and Wesson is now a corporation first and a gun maker second. As with most corporations the driving force is the dividend paid to the stock holders, and pride in workmanship appears to be a distant second.
S&W unlike so many corporations appears to have top notch customer service.

I'm sorry your 627 isn't up to your expectations. I bought mine new online as well, but arrived with some dings that shouldn't be on a new gun.
One thing about the "waning quality of new Smith & Wessons". Never before have so many people been able to exchange information to so many so quickly. 15 years ago, if you had a problem with your S&W, outside of your friends or shooting club, who would know? Now thousands can know near instantly with the advent of message boards, Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc. So are there more problems, or just more ways of letting people know about problems?
Things that we would not have noticed, or not perceived as a problem can now be brought to our attention and told yes, we should think of it is a problem. Some guy somewhere noticed his barrel was peening in his Glock 30. Every other member of Glocktalk who owned a Glock 30 ran over to the safe to see if theres was; guess what? Some were. So now all those previously happy Glock 30 owners are now upset about something they didn't even know was a problem until someone somewhere that 15 years ago they never would have known of pointed out the occurance.

Sorry for your misfortune - S&W will take care of you. Not all new S&W's are problematic. I bought a new 2 5/8" PC627 UDR in 4/10 and another one 10/10 - both were/are perfect - save the poorly fitted OEM Eagle boot grips - which they made good. Also bought since that first UDR last year were a 3" 63, 3" 60 Pro, and a Governor. All NIB - all perfect. My entire collection is from 2001 or later, bought NIB, save a '96 625-6 MG I got used. One, my 696-1, had a pinched ejector rod spring (They sent me a new spring.), while my 6" 629-6 had loose sideplate screws. Every other one was perfect. Every Ruger I've bought needed varying TLC before I could shoot it reliably - one went home for a new cylinder, hammer, trigger, etc, when three days old. I buy S&W's now.
No one likes getting a dud, QC-wise, but all manufacturers make them. What they do to satisfy the customer separates the good manufacturers from the bad - S&W will satisfy you. I guess I have been lucky - but much of that can likely be attributed to my buying from a local gunstore. I predict you'll love that UDR.

Sorry to hear of your issues. I agree with Stainz (is that becomming a pattern or something ) that S&W will make it right. I too have the UCR 627PC but mine has had zero problems, issues, warts, or hairs.
Good luck in getting it corrected, should be back in yer luvin arms before you know it.

I have the 5" barrel PC version. I was initially unhappy after my first trip to the range over what I thought were accuracy issues with the gun. I also started a thread on here discussing this "problem".
Several people contributed their great suggestions and it took me a while but I finally made it back to the range with it over the holidays for another try. In the end it just needed shooting and I needed to shoot it (more).
To cut a long story short, I just wanted to say that I am now VERY happy with my 627 PC pistol - it has become my favorite handgun. It is also very pretty (stainless) and I think that the workmanship is fantastic.
I'm certain that S&W will resolve this issue for you - hang in there! This should NOT cost YOU anything so I hope that you are not paying any postage here.
I am seeing the PC's for sale more often now so I think that they may have ramped up production a bit. Let's hope they also keep up the quality.

I almost bought a 627 in 2008. I handled one at the LGS, had the money in my pocket and was looking for either a 625 or 627 but when I handled it I couldn't believe the quality. It was one of the Pro series, not production, not PC. The muzzle looked like the crown had been cut with a cheap 1/2" drill leaving heavy chatter at the bottom of the deep crown. The barrel shroud did not touch the front of the frame, there was daylight between the shroud and the frame and you could have slid a dollar bill up almost to the barrel threads. I assume that it had been given a brushed finish with a horsehair or sisal wheel and a grease base polishing compound because the crack around the sideplate was leaking black grease that stained my hands from handling it. I went back a few weeks later and bought a Springfield Armory 1911 instead.

Just got my 627PC snub back from S&W. It had a sharp curl of metal all the way around the barrel and lug where they met the frame and spots on the side plate that wouldn't come off. Was back in about 10 days with letter stating they replaced barrel and refinished frame. I also requested that they contact me with the cost to fit a fluted cylinder while it was in the shop but they didn't respond to that. Still, every time I pick up that gun I grin!

Brother don't get me started, I too had issues from the Performance Center. I recently purchased a M325 Thunder Ranch Revolver and a M327 M&P R8 and both had a minor issue I was able to overcome. However, after spending a lot of money you would think that the PC would have better quality control.
