What dash number is your LS? The book does not show but one pre-fix starting with V and apparently it was only for the M647. There is a note about modern serial numbers at the end of the 3 letter pre-fix list that talks about dating a gun by the fired cartridge that comes with some guns. Do you have the box with the fired cartridge?
Maybe one of the other guys have more info.

M65-7 started in 2002 and the -8 came in 2005.

What does the 647 mean on the crane because it is stamped M65-7?

Other numbers or letters are assembly marks used by the factory to keep parts together while making the gun. I think it's a coincidence that your's has a V serial number and 647 stamped on the crane.
The M647 is a 17 HMR caliber gun.
