Here was a 3" model 66-2 like new in the original box from April 1985.

Bad pictures. 3 day auction. Someone didn't do their homework.

This is exactly the package I am considering selling to fund new lower
control arms on my Sebring convertible, among other things that just need to get paid.

I would not sell mine for $1000.

What say you? What is todays real world value of a 26 year old 3" model 66

Actually, that sounds about right. I have seen auctions for 3 inch 66-3 and 66-4 revolvers NIB that start out at $1000 wind up not having any bids. Most people are not looking for one of these to keep in a safe.

I bought my 66-4 3 inch shooter for $500 with a set of factory RB combat stocks on it. I do not have the box or paperwork for mine but have turned down a couple of offers for $750, which is in the ballpark of what it is worth. If I had one NIB that was just a safe queen I would entertain selling it for $1000.

I think the seller got a great deal.

I think the seller robbed someone as to me it's a $600 gun tops.

the 3" 66's are minimum $800 dollar guns....NIB older 66's could reach that figure quite easily..

I would say $500-$700, depending on the gun and how badly it was wanted. Can't tell anything from the pictures. I think the seller "did rather well."

I would much rather have a $600 gun I could shoot without losing money.

How much do you think a 1995 2-1/2 M66 almost new in box with all paperwork and cleaning kit is worth? Is $425 a good price.

I would buy one for that price.

Yes, that's a good price for a 2.5", and as you can tell the extra 1/2" of barrel comes with a premium. Someone wanted that NIB 3" 66 pretty badly.

I have passed on several 3 inch models that were in the 600.00 to 650.00 price range.

here are links to Three closed auctions where 3" 66's sold for over $900....yes they are Auction prices but it is not just a fluke occurence...people are paying big money for the 3"ers

Don't these prices come in waves?
Look at the CS-1 3 inch models. I just saw one sell for 750.00. At one time they were 1200.00 or 1300.00.
I am sure that the same will hold true with these 66 3 inch models.
And, look at the original Bloodwork revolvers. They have really taken a beating on the price.
You know, it reminds me of the stock market.
So. I guess if you want one you pay the going price at that particular time whatever it may be.

As far as the 3"ers go I'd have to agree with most here that it may bring that much, but not from me. I'd love to have one with the 3" barrel, but I'd want to carry it, not keep her locked up.

I wouldn't sell any of my 3" 66's for less than $1000. Where would I get another revolver as nice? Certainly not from the current company calling itself S&W.

The 3" 686 CS1 ? Most estimates suggest 1500 or less of those survive. You want one? Pony up the tariff, or get lucky with a seller who doesn't know what they have.

I have seen no evidence that the original 627 Bloodwork revolvers have "taken a beating on price". On the contrary, I have seen one original pre lock Bloodwork at the Greensboro gunshow, with a $2500 asking price.

If you want one of the new knock off Bloodwork guns, those are readily available on the auction boards for less than the orignal MSRP.

I'll pay more for the older more desireable guns. YMMV. Regards 18DAI.

I agree with you. I think the prices on these tend to ebb and flow just like on the Model 940's.

To be honest, I think a lot has to do with how much a particular model is being talked up on this forum.

Don't get me wrong. I think the 3" M66's are great revolvers and I would love to own one. However, tend to look at firearm purchases based on the opportunity cost. If I had a grand to spend on a revolver, I think I personally would rather put it towards a 2 1/2" M66 and a 3" M65. You couldn't get all the way there, but you could get pretty close.

The internet effect. The more free the market the more vertical the price structure becomes, it's good to be king.

I cannot see, from a shooters viewpoint, where the 3 inch barrel should carry a premium. I have 2 1/2", 4" and a 6" K-frame magnum and the 3 inch doesn't offer any thing more desireable than the one's I already have. To me, from a carry standpoint, the desireable aspect of the shorter barrel guns is the roundbutt. I bought the guns mentioned all for less than 5 bills. I wouldn't mind havinga 3" 66, but I wouldn't pay a penny more than 600-625 for one ANIB. I'd say the seller in the auction was fortunate to find a buyer at that level.
