Looking For Ankle Holster Advice
Can anyone recommend a good ankle holster (manufacturer and where to buy) for a S&W model 36? I'm looking for one that will protect the hammer and is comfortable to wear in all types of weather.

Not sure about a 36, but I carry my PPK in a Gould & Goodrich that I like. Really comfortable and if you don't want the garter strap it comes right off.

Renegade
I HIGHLY recommend a Renegade. Whatever you buy, remember that security is the NO 1 requirement in an ankle holster with comfort a close second. Speed is less imporant. The worst thing that can happen is for your ankle holster to throw out your emergency gun before you actually want it to. You should be able to run, kick, roll and do cartwheels without losing the gun and the Renegade provides.

+1 on the Ankle Glove. Worth every penny. I went ahead and spent the extra $20 for the garter (not shown).

You'll have a hard time finding one better than the original Alessi rig now offered by Ritchie Holsters.

I wore an ankle holster with a 2" M60 in it for ten years, and the day I discovered the DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster was the last day I ever wore an ankle holster! I went through 6 or 7 different ones, even had two custom made by the late Bruce Nelson, and his were by far the best of the bunch.
At best, even after getting used to, they are uncomfortable, difficult to access, and are always moving on your ankle unless you strap it on very tight.
After 10 years of wearing one, my personal advise would be to use a pocket holster, IWB holster, or a belt scabbard if you are able.
Just my .02 cents.

I wore a Bianchi leather ankle holster for M37 BUG/OD/CCW for over thirty years. I hated it. The leather ankle strap was either to tight or to loose. The sheepskin wore to the leather and it hurt my ankle. Then I found the Galco Ankle Glove. I have now two, one for my M37 and one for M649. I notice no difference between the two. I wear them comfortably for over eight hours, no problem. I just bought another one on eBay for off hand carry. I have an Uncle Mike's Sidekick that is no where near as comfortable as the Galco. I use a Galco Underwraps Belly Band when I wear cargo shorts. As discussed, neither is a quick draw, but I always have a gat.

Take a look at the Aker Comfort Flex II Model 157, I used it for my Model 37 both in and out of uniform for years and just bought a new one. When I had to qualify with my ankle rig I had no problems.

Greetings,
Renegade is the way to go. The only thing they could make better would to add a fastex type buckle over the velcro for a mechanical closure.
I have used Bianchi and Galco in the past. Over 15 years of wearing the Renegade daily has proven to me they are the best.
Good luck,
John

I have worn several different Alessi Ankle Holsters over the past 20 years. I think it would be difficult to find a better ankle holster than an Alessi Ankle Holster. Although Mr. Alessi passed away several years ago, his holster company is still in business. Google "Alessi Gun Holsters" and you will find their website.
I have tried a number of different ankle holsters in the past 35 years and the Alessi has been the best that I have used. I have used different Alessi Ankle holsters to carry a S & W Model 60 and 642 .38 Spl. 2", a Walther PKK/S .380 and what I now mostly carry, a Glock Model 27 .40 caliber handgun. It wears so well and comfortable that I hardly even know I have it on.
