Square butt grip on 3in 686?
I’m going to buy a 3in 686 and it’s a round butt, but i really like the look of the 686 square butt grips and I’ve seen that some 3in 686s came with square butt grips I’m trying to figure out how that works can you just put the factory square frame 686 grips on a round butt without any modification or did s&w make special grips for a few 3in 686s with the factory rubber grips?
Pretty much my question is do factory rubber 686 square butt grips fit on a round butt 686 because I’ve seen them on a round butt in pictures

Square butt grip on 3in 686?
I think Hogue and a few other companies make grips that convert round butt to square.

I made my own conversion of round-to-square-butt grips for my Model 29-6. I like the N frame factory square butt grips (a lot of people don't, saying they are too big). A good friend gave me a beautiful pair of presentation grips. I made a filler piece out of maple, dyed it black, and glued it in place with some low strength epoxy (so it could be removed by the next owner, if desired, without damage to the original grips).

Culina grips seem to make the best I’ve found. And I’ve tried everything from thia made to altamonts and everything in between. They are a bit pricey but for all the money I spent on other brands I could have bought more culina grips.

Most current grip manufacturers make round to square conversion grips, e.g., Ahrends, Altamont, Hogue, etc.

I’ve got several sets of Altamont rb to sb conversions. I really like them. A little slimmer than some and fit me perfect
