Default New model 10 (classic version)

2 of these in my LGS. When I was a rookie LEO, this was the issue weapon. I recall decent triggers and very decent accuracy. Are these 2015 "Classic" models worth considering or is my time better spent finding an older used one at the gun shows. Thanks in advance.

If you want a shooter and don't mind a gun looking well-used, there are plenty of old model 10s in the market for half or maybe even less than half of the new classics. The new classics though are beautiful guns! I toyed with the idea of buying one, but opted for an old used 64.

I guess it depends on the price. MSRP is around $750. I pick up 95% vintage ones in the $250 - $350 range all the time.

These two at the LGS are $679. I wouldn't mind paying that for a new one if it had a "Performance Center" grade build and trigger and was hoping someone here had purchased one. The old police trade-ins in stainless and blue are around at the shows for $250-$350 here as well but nice ones are hard to find and all police trade-ins have been used (and had their forcing cones pounded) with jacketed ammunition exclusively unless you get lucky and find a clean 70's to early 80's model.

Bud's has them for $561.00 (make an offer price). Maybe your LGS will do better on their price if you show them.

I picked up a great 10-7 snub several years ago and it serves as our home protection gun.

I think a used M10 is an excellent value. Have two of them serving HD duty. Keep your eyes and ears open and you will probably find a serviceable one from $325 to $450 depending on geography. High condition ones may command a little more $$.
At the Fredericksburg, VA gun show last weekend, a seller had a nickel 10-8 on his table for $350 that looked great finish wise, but the PC Magnas were pretty beat up. If it checked out mechanically, I think it would have been a good deal. I walked away because I have temporary possession of a 20 gauge Ithaca NID double gun that might become mine at a great price if it passes a range function check in the next couple of weeks. I have to conserve my meager gun fund for this possibility...

When I went a-lookin' all the decent condition guns were going for $500-$750. In that case a new one may be a reasonable option, if it's gotta look good.

In frustration I took a gamble on a sight unseen imported police trade. It is ugly, but for $225 it ended up being an exceptional shooter.

Despite what some purists and naysayers say, there's nothing wrong with the new guns at all.

No model 10 is "ugly". Homely, maybe, plain, of course. But not "ugly"
Nothing as breath-takingly perfect as an example of form follows function approaches the lowly Model 10.

Ugly?!? Please! One of the best looking handguns ever turned out by S&W. Here's one that had twenty years hard use (Wore it out. Really. Had to go back to the S&W factory for a new cylinder, barrel, re-drilled and press fit center pin hole in the recoil plate, which I'd worn egg shaped and a re-blue. Otherwise it was just fine...).
