Pehaps turn one of my 696s into a fixed-sight model?

Don't know why I only posted my 3" magnum, this would be my go-to piece if I couldn't pack a commander 1911 in an urban setting.
250g cast SWC's don't bounce off much when they're moving along @ 900fps.

My idea is epitomized in this picture (although it's hard to see) of a Karl Sokol modified K frame. The end result is a 2.5" barrel with big dot sight, bobbed hammer, rounded trigger, round butt and dark finish. I don't really know what it started life as, it could be any of the fixed sight K frames and any would suit me just fine.

My 3 inch CS-1 is my favorite. If you have one you know what I'm talking about. If you don't own one I know you want one. If I was hitting the back woods trails in bear country I'd pack along my 3 inch custom Redhawk. I won't spend any time bragging about a Ruger on a S-W sight though.

Which holster(s) do you use? I have one on the way, but I have not researched holsters yet. I would really appreciate a head start on that.

Okay, Call Me Naive, but...
I know I've led a sheltered existence, and haven't had the exposure
to bad stuff that most have, but I'm pretty happy with the 442/642guns in 2", at least, until I got a Mod. 36 3". It's a great piece, so I'm
thinking a 3" 642 would do it for me. Light enough for extended carry, with longer sight radius. I'm satisfied with 38 Spl, and going +P
would be perfect enough, IMO. TACC1

My 317 with a 3" barrel is lighter and easier to carry than this 2 3/4" one, so I guess what I consider an ultimate carry piece depends on why I happen to be carrying at that particular time.

586 or fluted 629.
Unfortunately, that'll prob'ly never become a reality for me unless someone discovers a truckload of 'em somewhere and it drives down the prices.

I use a Desantis Thumb break scabbard for a 4" that I had a local leather worker modify for the 3" barrel and remove the thumb break (leaving enough material to protect the sights)

The 3 1/2" M27 (eight shot) or 3" M66; gold bead front sight, tuned action, square butt, Spegel checkered cocobolo boot grips, Summer Special 2 cowhide on a Mernickle belt & speedloader holder, 5 Star or Safariland Comp 2 speedloaders, Tuff strips Quickstrips. With a big cold glass of my wife's sweet tea.
Those 3" M625's look good too.

If you'll stretch the 2.750" barrel a little, will it qualify as a 3"?
It's just a small .500
And a VM II look alike from a custom holster maker near me.
A serious gun belt is required...
Business end of the beast.

Did you skip page 4 of this thread? Three of us mentioned it and two of us posted pictures of the beasts.

66-5 3.25"
Here is my newly acquired 66-5 3.25" It is my only 3" S&W, so it will have to qualify as my "Ultimate 3 Inch Carry Piece". I still need to get it to the range, but it does point really well. Assuming it shoots as well as I expect it to, it will become my primary carry piece. Next step is to get some decent wood grips and a leather holster, then the rig will be comlete.

S&W 65-3, 3". Had the cylinders chamfered and an orange insert cut into the front sight - it already had a sweet trigger when I got it... The 640-1 is a little short for this thread, but us great notheless!
