S&W Combat Stocks - Beauty & Function-Lets See 'Em
The Combat Grips that S&W shipped some revolvers with in the 1980's and early 90's are some of the most useful grips (IMO) S&W ever made. Not to mention how beautiful many sets are.
So- lets see some Combat Stock photos!!
Here is a set of round butt rosewood stocks I purchased from a forum member and refinished. Shown on my 19-5.
I bought a bag of 8 sets of grips for $70 to get this pair of round butt Goncalo Alves stocks. Stripped and refinished with multiple layers of tung oil, they now reside on a fully polished 66-4.
My first set of combat stocks are these Goncalo Alves, which came with my 617 back in 1990. They look and work much better on this 586-4.

I agree. S&W combats are, by far, the coolest wooden factory grips on the market. They always catch my eye, no matter what model gun they are on. I only have three pair right now. The J-Frames I bought on ebay, then the very next day, found a set in a local gun store, opened only to rob the screw. The K/L Frame grips I found in another PA gun shop, unopened. I haven't had the nerve to open them yet. These are the only grips I keep in my safe, attached to a gun, or not.

I have 5 sets of K frame combats that I truely love but I will say that when I'm at a gun show a dealer has a beautiful well colored and grained set for sale and is asking $250 I just get sick. There is no way to justify the purchase but some of us break down and do buy them.
I guess I have pictures of 3 sets and one new set is on the way on a 617 with 4 inch barrel that I just bought. So I guess I'll have to find the 4th set and take a photo of them on whatever revolver they are on.

Here is my tired old picture of a "wheel" of 3" N frames, with lots of factory combats (L frames in center):
And a 629-2:

Combats do rock,
Occurs to me a grip company could make a killing making these semi affordable...Hint Hint.
Actually should have WAY more combat stocks but for unscrupilouse types robbing them off guns to sell seperate .

The 16-4's, 617, and 631 all shipped from the factory with combats as standard equipment. I found an extra set in the bottom of a box and put them on this 686.

great looking grips...and guns too!!!
i'm looking to buy a 625, prefer the RB frames but i have this set of square frame Combats just in case. judging from the reliefs on both sides, these must have come from a commemorative. and the grain is something else.

N square
Is the N frame square more difficult to find than the others?
They seem to be less pic of them.
