I have one that had a bursting bomb on trigger guard. That could indicate military arsenal issue. Unsure.

More likely these were proof stampings from a foreign country; the Germans seem to be particularly fond of doing this, and quite a few S & W guns were sent via their distributor (Wischo) at about the time the 625-2 was produced.

I saw this on Gunbroker as well. Advertised as a (-3) model but appears to have some features of a (-4) model. The rear sight appears to have been swapped for a newer version with the rounded end on the top strap, appears to have been drilled and tapped with the extra 3rd screw hole (pic showing underneath the topstrap), and had Hogue grip instead of factory Pachmeyr grip. Had several other proof stampings on bottom of barrel and I wandered what they all meant.

Actually you may be referring to a different 625. The one I saw was a -3. Didn't see the -2.
